Pic 2
Factory Thermoquad phenolic on top of mystery spacer

Pic 3
Offenhauser 2 inch spread bore spacer
On top of mystery spacer

Damn, no fit

Problem: mystery spacer have to enlarge secondary holes
I really want to use mystery spacer, this one looks like it has good high temp blocking capabilities
Ia am curious about what was the application for it, maybe Quadrajet ? Did Ford do a spread bore ?

Ford did do a speadbore, on 429 vanilla motors, and probably 400M. Not sure which carb. (Quadrajet?)(Autolite?)
Got a die grinder and a sanding roll? You've got two templates to enlarge it to.
Edit :Ford used a 4350 Motorcraft spreadbore, and also quadrajets. Quadrajet or thermoquad will not fit on a 4350 specific manifold.

429 vanilla? Never hear that one. The 400 never came with a factory 4 barrel. Ford's go to spread bores were the Autolite 4300 series and the Thremoquad. The 4300 was used on the Cleveland engines and the Thermoquad was used on the 460. I think there was some crossover for the 4300, but I've never seen or heard tell of a Thermoquad on anything else Ford, but the 460.

Oh and Brooks, your first phenolic spacer is for a Quadrajet.

Not sure what the the first spacer in the pic fits, but NOT a QJ or TQ. Probably a Holley 4165 Spreadbore.

To me, non-CJ, SCJ, 429s are vanilla.
Ok. Plain. I get it. But any engine that never came with a 2 barrel is plain? Naw, I don't think so. lol

I'm not so sure,I think spread bore Holleys were originally manufactured as replacements for QJ and TQ. I'm thinking this is a factory piece..
I haven't seen a 1 inch phenolic spacer for sale as an aftermarket piece.

From what I have found on line, the manifold that used the Motorcraft 4350 would not accept a tq or quadrajet without mods, even though the 4350 is a "speadbore"
Either way, it's a simple matter of opening up the spacer you want to use, to the size you need.

I have one of those. It came with the 4175 Holley 600 cfm spreadbore that I bought back in 88. The secondary bores are not large enough for the TQ and I think not on the QJet either. You'll have to enlarge the holes somehow.

Measure the hole sizes and cross reference the sizes to the various carbs. Factory parts also normally have some sort of stamp on them.

The 4165 and 4175 carburetors were sold as DIRECT replacements for Quadrajets.

RRR,
Well aware of that. The 4165/4175s had 2" diam sec bores, the TQ & the QJ had 2 1/4" diam sec bores. That spacer looks right for 41X5 carbs....
