I have a set of what appear to be 360 heads on my 318 block and would like to know what they are exactly. I can see the "360" casting (see pic) but the only other numbers I see look like "3418". Any thoughts?
Thanks

Are the intake rockers arms offset? Intake push rods leaning? If so, than you have a set of 340 T/A heads.

Update:
3418915 castings were 71-72 340-360 1.88 J heads
3462598 castings were the 340 T/A heads

Mopar Casting Numbers - Mopar1.us - Mopar Part Numbers

3418915 - 340TA (1970) Intake: 2.02 Exhaust: 1.60
3418915 - 340 (1971-72) Intake: 1.88 Exhaust: 1.60
3418915 - 360 (1970-72) Intake: 1.88 Exhaust: 1.60

If you could take a pic of the pushrod hole and a pic of the rockers it would help determine if they are in fact T/A heads with the offset rockers. Otherwise they would be a small valve 340/360 head with what would be 273 adjustable rockers.

Oh, I see they have the "360" cast in to them. Those will be the 340/360 1.88" intake valve head not the 2.02" T/A.

The T/A heads had offset pushrod holes and did not have 360 cast in. When the 360 came out for the 1971MY, Chrysler put the small valve 3418915 head on 340's and 360's.

Oh....OK.....thanks guys

Not just J. I have a 3418915 "Z" & "O" head.

Was there more than one casting # for T/A heads because all I have ever seen was that T/A heads are 915 heads with offset pushrod holes? Never heard of a 598 T/A head.

All production 340-6 heads were 915 and had "360" cast into them but machined for the rockers and 2.02 valves. I never knew of any differences between J, Z, O, etc. However, there were a few VERY early T/A style heads that were 894 castings machined to accept offset rockers. They may have been over-(or under:rolleyes:)-the-counter, not OEM.

This guy is trying to say he's got 340 T/A heads. They clearly aren't. He's local so I am going to go look at them and probably going to let him down.
I'll check them for 2.02 valves.

That’s not a bad deal for all that stuff he has...but he did say “appear to be from a T/A” many people just google the part number and that’s why they think that...they don’t know the real difference if they just dug a little deeper

Or he is trying to dupe an unsuspecting buyer. I am going to go look and tell him they are not T/A heads and to sell them as such is bad karma.
If they are 2.02's I will offer him some money for them but I already have some 1.88 915's.

I have J, O, X, U, and Z heads, they were all the 1.88 valves except the X heads all came with 2.02 valves....they are all good heads, easy to install the 2.02 valves

He could be “playing dumb” or just doesn’t have a clue. Even if they are 1.88, they look clean from that picture, if the intake is good and the 318 heads are nice that’s good deal...get them for less even better! (Never understand why when selling something people only post 1 picture??) One thing I like about buying parts in person is they usually always have other parts they’ll sell and then you can get them bundled together for a better deal! I’ve had people come here to buy 1 thing and left with a bunch of extras!

Exactly. It's like deer or snakes. There are always more close by! I like responding to craigslist ads because, especially with us Mopar nuts, they often will have a hoard. I ALWAYS ask, "What else ya got?".

Just be careful. Some guys get very insulted when you correct them. Good luck.

Good point. But he can just point out that the 915 heads have the same pushrod hole orientation as the 318 heads, so no offset intake rocker arms.
