This is something I think can bring out the best of the thinkers and tuners in the world of Slant Six racing, and be affordable and basic enough that everyone who chose to, could participate and actually have a chance to be competitive.
A heads up, no breakout class, run off a Pro Tree...sounds expensive so far, huh?
The cars would have to be constructed 100% from regular assembly line parts.
Single barrel carb, stock exhaust manifold.. Only gears and trans components that were available from the factory. Same for engine components. Stock or replacement pistons, stock lift and duration camshafts and valve sizes. Factory ignition systems.
DOT tires, 3000 pound minimum weight.
Zero power adders.
Outside of all that, ANYTHING goes.
I would set up a car for this in a heartbeat.
What do you guys think?

how are you set for milling/modifying those stock parts?

Regrinding stock cam? So far, this sounds like an all stock slant shootout........which would be fun too.

Only one rule absolutely cast in granite:
One hundred percent of the cars drive line had to originate on a Chrysler assembly line, OR be an exact, direct replacement.
Call it the Rockauto rule. If you can't order it from there, it can't be used.
That said, you can do ANYTHING you choose to do with those parts. No limit to the extent of modification.
Also, the minimum weight. Has to be heavy enough so that there is no advantage to lightweight stuff on the car itself.
We could call it SSS, or Super Stock Slant.
The idea is to make a class where the thinkers and innovators can really go nuts, but keep it basic enough that everybody has a shot at winning

I think if you spec'd naturally aspirated, you'd have something.

I only say that because turrrrrrrboz cost dollaz

I like it.Stone stock with 2.76 gears this 170 CID monster tripped the lights at a blazing 21.20 seconds at 68 MPH,,, ZOOOOOOM ! You know what ? I had a blast with the Slant racers at Mason-Dixon Dragway in Maryland.

I'm sure that was a slow motion blast..I have that same combination in my daily driver Dart.
For this class..I would think once guys started to get hard core, you'd see times deep in the 13 second range, if not quicker.

Now I wonder what the record in stock class is for a slant ? I'm not good with a computer to look it up.

He spec'd a one barrel.

That said, is it a factory carb?

That's pretty cool then. So I could run a 340 valve spring, for instance?

Now you got me thinking a bit more.Fresh engine, good valve springs some head work and open exhaust with some gears.Put it all in a 3,000 lbs car you can easy run in the 15 second range.Working the carb proper jetting for track altitude maybe even the 14's. How about a converter ??

Sounds interesting, perhaps boring to the spectators, if there are any more. As a benchmark, I had a bone stock 1976 Feather Duster that ran 18 sec quarter mile times. Could have gone faster with a normal 4 speed and some tuning.

Gee I hope the mods don't dis me for posting in a thread.

Had to have been originally factory installed on a Slant.
You could bore it to take a Dominator throttle blade if you want, but the carb body has to be a factory piece

Turn a factory super six 2 barrel into a big one barrel? lol

We did this once, only we used a super six. Cut the head .100, ported with a dremel, and found a factory exhaust manifold that had like a 2 1/8 opening. 8 3/4 with 3.55's and a stock 904 H/S (high stall from factory). It was in a '72 Duster.
Sorry to say, never made it to the track, but I'd have guessed it 15's for sure. Short block had like 160,*** miles on it and we never took it apart. It was very cheap, like 150 bucks into it.
Pretty neat to be able at will to burn the tires at will with a /6 auto
