A guy has these for sale but says he doesn’t know if they are sure grip. He said one of them is a 489 case but not sure about the other. This is the only picture posted. Is there anyway to tell just by looking at this?

well, one is clearly not a suregrip. so i guess if the other one doesn't look like that, then maybe it is.

have a pick of the gears on the other?

The one without the snubber is open. Assuming the other is the 489 case, IF it's a sure grip, it will likely be a cone type, and you could see another set of bolts on the same side as the ring gear bolts.
Hard to tell on the left case..... but I think it's open too.

The unit on the top left is not a cone type, the through bolts for the sure grip are located on the same side as the ring gear bolts. So we would see them.

Both Open and not worth a bunch.
Look like 2.94 or 3.23 gears which are
very common.

Thanks man! I really appreciate it. He’s selling them for only $50. Would it make sense to buy them and just resell them and make a little bit or are they just not worth messing with? I’m trying to find an 8 3/4 rear with 3.55 posi
