I set up a commercial account with Autozone pickup my Stock Magnum cylinder heads for $345.00, came with new seat inserts, guides and valves. Port them through the guidance of a head porter, '63GT, $ saved I bought the cast iron deburring bits and die grinder. The post on FABO was "Magnum head porting for the beginner" Here's the video 1st start up.Most the guy's here (unlike me) live in America I imagine a set of rebuilt magnum heads couldn't be that much ? Where if the OP wanted to could do a magnum head swap but I guess aluminum speedmasters are so cheap it generally don't make sense.
Unfortunately, that is correct.Did I read right not long ago that @sireland67 is no longer with us? I hope not.
Anyway a few posts up he said something about a 360 mag with KB107 pistons, Im asking if he had to have the engine balanced to use those.
choose wisely and *verify* the piston-- LA and mag rods are different sizes at the little end and don't take the same piston.Yikes, another one.... ugh.
Well I hope you guys dont mind me piggybacking this question onto this thread....
I'm looking at rebuilding a disaster of a 360 magnum. Rebuild #1 went bad.
Im looking for go around #2 and am looking at pistons. Looking at Summit, they show the KB107 and the speed pro (I think it is) H116CP that looks REAL similar to each other. pricing is similar between them, too.
I see in their "what's it fit" they show both of these going into either/both the LA and Magnum 360. Being I know the 2 engines are both external balance, they are by different amounts. Which engine (LA or magnum) are they closer to "balanced right" for? and which version are they more likely to have balanced for at the machine shop?
My son has a set of that number Speed Pros he said I could take and use. They're still on LA rods so they'd possibly need swapped to Magnum rods. this block is already 30-over, has like 3 hours on it... dont ask what went wrong.... I will say it wasn't the cam.... my sons speed pros are the 30 over I'd be needing....
Don't want to get into it. It was originally rebuilt for a Durango, I ended up pulling it and put a used Craigslist short block in the Durango and this engine has been on a stand in the garage every since. There were several errors, one of which was buying a set of brand new "ready to run out of the box" EQ heads that truly weren't ready to run. Valve guides were too tight and when it warmed up it stuck valves and bent them.. I dumped the break in oil and it came out a silver slurry like I've never seen before (bearing material) there were a couple of other factors but that's plenty by itself.choose wisely and *verify* the piston-- LA and mag rods are different sizes at the little end and don't take the same piston.
(i mean, they can but that's a whole different set of questions)
what went wrong with the first build?
Dangit don, what are you doing.....durability testing? You're had a run of bad luck.Don't want to get into it. I was definitely pissed at spending what I did on those garbage (brand spanking new heads) and then having to send them thru the machine shop and then having to spend more money on them to make them usable.
Goddam it... I've had to clear out the same Kia ad 4 times now as it's covered up what I'm trying to hunt and peck this post.... I don't care how many ads I see for them I refuse to take a Kia anything even if they were free ...
Back on the failed rebuild (and now up to 8 ads covering my screen to type a single post) it wasn't my first engine job at all but my first one that went bad
