I'm about to install new gaskets on my 833 4 speed OD tranny before I install it. I removed the input bearing retainer and worked the input shaft up and down to check play. Something told me to pull on it and it moved forward about 3/8". Is this normal?

Yes. the only thing that keeps it in place is the front bearing/ ring / and the front retainer

The pilot bearing/ bushing keeps the input shaft inline,

and the mainshaft has bearings inside the pilot shaft, so those front needle bearings, the mainshaft ball where the tail meets the case, and the rear yoke riding in the bushing in the tail, all three keep the mainshaft inline.

Thanks 67Dart273, I guess I will go ahead and replace the gaskets, seals and paint it Hemi orange!

That's good because the freakin' Felpro set I ordered, the bearing retainer gasket is too small!
