I just took delivery of a new Strange S60 and 11.7" rear discs from Doctor Diff.

I've never pulled the axle out of anything, so I need a little direction with installing the caliper brackets.
Does the axle just slide out after I unbolt it? And when I reinstall it, is there any kind of adjustment necessary, or do I just slide it back in and tighten the bolts?

Also, what is the torque spec for those bolts that hold in the axle, and do you all loctite?

Thanks again, FABO

I have some info and pictures of my install of the 11.7” rear disks on my Duster here

My install is on an 8 3/4, but the S60 should be very similar. Once you unbolt them keepers the axles should slide out. They may require a smack with a dead blow to get them moving but I’ve only needed an axle puller on housings that had rust on the bearings.

On reinstall if you have tapered bearings you’ll have to set the end play on the axles. If you have the green style bearings the axles just bolt in. And if you have a limited slip differential you’ll have some kind of thrust button or block if you have tapered bearings.

The torque specs and end play tolerance is in the FSM.

If I'm not mistaken just about everyone's rear disc kit requires green style bearings. Adjusters can't be used. And....on my Strange super 60 I had to cut the axle retainer off to slide the backing plate on which acts as the axle retainer

DoctorDiff’s rear disk kits can be used with tapered bearings and adjusters.

Many of the rear disk kits do require green bearings, but there are some (like the DoctorDiff 10.7" and 11.7" kits) that do work with the factory bearings. Which is why it’s better not to cheap out on some of the more generic rear disk kits.

DoctorDiff also sells heavy duty adjusters

That was the first thing I did, but he’s out of the office until next week.

Rats! Looking at it once the 4 or 5 (depending on what bearing flanges were used) axle nuts or nut and bolt combo is removed, the axle should slide right out.
