intake bolt sealer

LOL, chuck, that's exactly what I meant. Guess I confused some withthe way I explained it.

Just about ready to bring out the welder :toothy6: "Still" oil :angry3: I pulled the intake bolt and it was dry this time..(due to thread and copper RTV). I then took the valve cover off and "yes" found the gasket wet even the threads were to spec (+). I ended up putting my "rubber" one that never leaked before (yes it used). Still theres' a puddle where the intake bolt is located under the carb. I also checked to ensure the Performance Covers were not touching the intake. I perhaps thought my carb was leaking from the shaft but there's just too much oil.
It's one of those things I guess. Physics tell me if it's from the valve cover gasket, the oil would trace or run to the rear. Theres no indication of oil dripping from the cover (it's dry) and if it is leaking under higher RPM, still...how it drips or jumps inboard towards the carb then passes the 1/4 intake lip "uphill" then all of a sudden drops into the bolt valley is F**king Magic. :shaking: I need a beer or two maybe three.
 
You might be on to something there with the valve covers. I had the same issue with a set of chrome covers matched with an edelbrock intake. The cutouts that go around the intake runners were not quite right and needed trimming to seal properly. Until I trimmed them around the runners they would leak. just something to look at.
 
If youre building enough pressure in that block to push oil up intake bolts yiou better panty vac it or get a new pcv valve
 
Why couldn't you use the non-hardening thread sealer like you use on headbolts.....I have a tube of that on my shelf from when I did a head gasket on my sister-in-law's Neon. All the head bolts are in the water jacket and need to be sealed.
 
This is the first time I have ever heard of anyone putting sealer on an intake bolt.....or anybolt other than a header stud or bolt for that fact.

When I was proffesional mechanic, I not only used sealer on non-blind intake bolts, but water pump bolts, thermostat cover bolts, differential bolts, transfer case bolts, etc., etc. If it was not blind, I sealed it. If you do this type of work on an everyday basis, you will see some that leak, and I never wanted my customers coming back with a complaint. :)

Yep. :thumblef: Ford M-Series engines head bolt run into the water jackets too. I always sealed 'em.

The oil only puddles next to the exhaust crossover doesn't it? I was told along time ago that this happens if you run an aluminum intake and it just happens to be on the porous side of casting. The heat from the exhaust pulls the oil up thru. I don't know if this is true or not but I did have a small block Chevy once get these puddles next to the crossover but I haven't had any of my mopars do it yet.

For years I never sealedd them. But about 10 years ago I started using liquid teflon sealr on them. I just keeps the oil seeping on to the intake to a minimum. Over time, oil works it's way out. That's part of it's job...lol.
 
Well, I'm sold on the sealer idea. I may have just been lucky so far with no leaks. I don't even use sealer on the water pump and timing cover bolts. From now on I will just as a preventive measure. Double check those gaps on the valve covers too, What I did was test fit them without the gaskets and trimmed them to fit that way and then just added the gaskets. Good luck, And make sure you pick up some extra beers for the weekend, You may need it:)

Anyways, update!! My intake leak has stopped. Yes boys, there's still oil in her:toothy10: I call this good "FM" F**King Magic because I have no idea where it was leaking from or why it decied to stop. Perhaps after my last hard run the gaskets softened up or something...anyways what can I say :cheers::cheers::cheers:

It must have been the good gremlins fix'ed it. :toothy10:
