Dose anyone know if an edelbrock performer rpm
intake will clear the hood, with a stock air cleaner
in a 1967-1969 383 barracuda?
If not does anyone have the dimensions of a DP4B
Edelbrock intake?

That`s a set-up I once had and it would NOT clear the hood. I ended up buying a drop based air cleaner which provided enough room for the hood to close. I searched for the drop base only to work with the stock air cleaner top but it wasn`t available at the time. Somebody like K&N might make something like that now. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply how much drop base did you
have to use?
I have a torker now, which I have not put on,
but I was afraid it might lose to much bottom end
for street use.

check FBO. He's got a nice one with a drop base. K&N has them too. Try Summit or Jegs also.

I happen to have a K&N dropbase air cleaner for sale. Its 14 inch diameter, the chrome is real nice and it has a real K&N filter element. Want $45 plus shipping. [email protected] or 248 514-5977

Okay since I have an edelbock carb with an electric choke,
a drop base air cleaner will not work. The only other 2 manifolds
that will work with out a drop base are the mp dual plane or
the weiand action +. Has anyone had experience with either
manifold on a 383/400?

I have a 69 340 Swinger with stock hood, and a LD340 intake with factory AVS Carb, and I was able to use the stock black wrinkle air cleaner even with a molded underhood isulation pad. The only thing I did was change the air filter. I had a stock size K&N, I checked the K&N site and found the same size filer, just 3/4 of an inch shorter. worked perfect, and nobody but nobody would ever know the air filter is alittle shorter.

Edelbrock does make a drop base air cleaner that will work with your Edel carb w/elec. choke and the Performer intake. I don`t know the # but you can usually find it at the local auto store.

Also, if you use drop base, then dont forget to use the banjo fitting on the fuel inlet on the carb. Summit PN G3139 or Eddy PN 8089. Otherwise the fuel line wont clear the base.

Thanks for everyones advise and experiences.
The edelbrock air cleaner drops 1.18 but with
the electric choke you have to add back a .75
adaptor to clear the choke according to thier site.
So I think with the net drop of .43 (-.75) and a 2"
filter (stock 2.75") will give enough drop
of .43 +.75 (1.18). The other option would
be to go with a manual choke and no clearance
problems with the full drop base.
The banjo fitting is the way to go.

Thanks again guys
