I beadblasted my new to me Eddy D4B intake for my 67 273 and discovered some pitting on the intake manifold gasket surface, looks like from water leaking from the cooling passages. I am thinking of taking it to the machine shop and having the intake surfaces machined to clean up. Is there a safe number I can ask them to remove before I get into geometry problems? Thanks!

ive ran into that a number of times. i have always just taken some 100 grit paper on a block and scuffed the mating surfaces real good, put a thin layer of high temp permatex around the water passages on the head , install the gaskets, then another thin layer on the intake side, and torque it down. ive never had one leak on me. unless it is real bad , you should be fine...my $0.02

Dont resurface it, do as advised. you can also take some RTV and paint it into the water ports to suspend further erosion. If you lay the intake with no gaskets onto the motor are your ports lined up or are the under the head ports? Most of the time the ports are too high with gaskets . If they match up, you could theoretically measure the compressed height of the gasket and mill the intake that number, but that is far more expensive than a tube of RTV.

Does a D4B fit a 67 273? My understanding was that the D4B was made for the early 273's (64-65?) with the 5/16" bolts at the weird angle. The LD4B fits the later engines and it's a lot easier to find.

Yes, it is an LD4B, I misspoke before. Talked to the machinest and he can do the machining for $80.00 He suggested filling the pits with a skim coat of JB Weld and then having him resurface the intake faces. I am thinking about what to do, I want to powdercoat the intake but want all the issues fixed first. Thanks for the input.

+1 and use the Chrysler silver permatex. It STICKS.
