Intake's almost done

Uhhh, pharmboy, according to the arrows on the carb covers, your carbs are facing backwards... :) :) :) :) :) :)
 
Backwards? I'm not entirely sure what direction the arrows should be facing. Given they're not on what they're 'supposed to' be on. Can't they just make it easy...I mean, claymore mines have a handy "this side towards enemy" embossed right into the front cover...
 
Y'know...I think now I'm gonna have to find a picture of the engine bay of an escort and see just what the heck that arrow was supposed to point towards when properly installed. This has me curious...
 
Got it half-plumbed. Not bad so far, just need one bend tighter than my bender can make to finish up the rearward carb. Should be a simple job for a brake shop tomorrow at lunch.

I'm loving what you're doing with this, but I have a question I can't find the answer to. What car did those carbs belong to? I can't find any reference to a 1.8L Escort that had a carburetor. 1.6? 1.9? I'm planning on putting a single 2305 Holley (also progressive) on mine, but if that goes badly, or isn't entertaining enough, I might go this direction.
 
Hey Pharmboy. Take a look a Mikes thread on the 'fresh air breather' Since you are a guy who likes flash on his slant these might be the ticket. Bear in mind they sell these new for about 45 dollars a pop. Put two of these on the carbs, run a fresh air tube off of both of them kind of like what they do with the windshield washer squirter hose connector with two into one and extend the tube down and attatch it to the side of the battery tray and throw one of them cone shaped K&N filters on it. This would look just too cool. I am going to get one for my 4bbl setup at some point and may just try one out on my stock six for a test. It will take a small piece of metal put into the bottom side for sizing to the carb but it will fit and might even look awesome when done. Just a thought!!!!

I had a 1983 Escort with a carb like this. It was a 1.6L. I miss that car.... NOT!

Sorry about the confusion guys, It would be the carbs are from a 1.6L Ford Escort. And I've already got an air cleaner, just need to get my carb gaskets taken care of first.
 
The way I recall it, the carbs on the Escort are essential Weber DGEV 32/36 made under license by Holley. These carbs were used on a bunch of things both domestic and imported. I've seen them on Jeeps and some of the late AMC products. Weber Redline has a fairly tidy rectangular air filter that would fit each carb.

Nice work Pharmboy. You ought to have plenty of cfm for your /6.

Well, I got word from the guy back home who's got my car (completely different mechanic this time), that my 225 is installed, new intake/headers are on, carbs mounted...all that's left to do, is hook up a transmission kickdown and throttle cable, as well as the idle control solenoids and electric chokes and throw and air cleaner on it. Oddly, though...it seems that he's afraid to start it. Oh, that and it seems that the added height from those sweet carb pads mean that there's a chance the hood won't close once the air cleaner is on it. But, not to worry...I have a hood scoop that should cover that up...I hope...
 
Well, I got it out of the shop Saturday morning...drove it home. I must say, it's incredibly loud with open headers. I managed to set off the alarm on my pickup from about 15 feet away at idle. Currently, it's needing a new throttle linkage arm to allow for the carbs to open further. It will drive, but it's just not got the throttle response I'd want. Also, picked up a windshield Friday afternoon. So my brother's taking it to the pipe shop today for a Y-pipe and 2 1/4" system all the way back, and then in a couple weeks I'll call out a glass guy to do the windshield. It's practically a new car...
