Am I missing something for my column?

I have a parts column here in Chicago with a good bushing I think.

I've read of some later model columns that never had a bushing there. I don't recall ever seeing a column without a lower bushing. I'll guess... 72 to 76 Duster or Dart Sport, floor shift manual trans. Close ?

do you get a warm draft blowing up your shorts when you drive? Thats all it stops...and who would want to stop that?

Is it possible that some of those bushings/bearings broke or came apart and a portion of it climbed up the column tube ? Stranger things have happened.

I got the column out a and see nothing inside. If this column didn't have any there i won't put anything there. Thanks everyone

If my memory serves me right (and that is a big if), The 4 speed column didn't have a lower bushing.

I have never understood why a bushing is needed, whether "supposed to" or not. you obviously need a good bearing/ bushing at the top, and a mechanism to control thrust. The bottom assembly, the box shaft, the coupler and the column shaft, are all supported by the bearing in the box.
