on my /6 i have a single barrel holly carb. sometimes when i start the car (and the car has already been driven and warmed up) it still needs a pump or two to get it to fire. it acts like its cold when its right at running temperature. this usually happens at gas stations when ive filled up, so im not low on fuel or anything.

i have another carb in my shed and comparing the two, the shed one looks nicer, but i dont know the contiodion. just it looks better.

does anyone have a clue what could be wrong with my carb? should i swap in the other?

Sounds like mild vapor lock, and isn't that uncommon with a slant six on the stock carb. You might want to try rerouting the fuel line over the valve cover; see this write-up.

When was last time you tuned up your car & are you using an electronic ignition?

Jeff:read2:

on the tune ive no idea, bought it in september and idk what the previous owner did with it, guy was a kook. screwd my wiring so god knows how he treated the engine compartment

Some times rough starts can be a points or timing issue even after the car has warmed up. You need to know your cars engine is dialed in electronically before dive into the carb.

My 64 started doing this over the week end.
Yesterday I "Cleaned up" the cap contacts, rotor button, points. Then would not start at all!
Replaced points, condensor, rotor button, cap.
Fired but ran rough.
Adjusted points to .016 when on open lobe.
Fired and adjusted timing with vacume guage.
Starts and runs like granny's race car again!!!
Good luck!8)
After I shoveled the driveway off, I even changed the oil in the 67 too!!
Good times!!! (Had a heat wave of 28 degrees and took advantage!)
