It's an NOS valve but what is it?

Found in a friends attic - NOS - part number and box description says:

VALVE
2776146

It is an air conditioning compressor evaporator pressure regulator valve. Looks like some moisture has gotten to it.

A lot of RV compressors replaced when the problem was that valve....

I thought it might be a/c related, but have never gotten into an a/c system that deep to be sure... Yeah - apparently the attic was damp from time to time.

That part number has been superceded 4 times if I recall correctly.
