JOHN FORCE ACCEPTS CREW CHIEF JIMMY PROCK’S RESIGNATION TODAY

BROWNSBURG, IN (October 22, 2014) --- John Force Racing CEO and 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force announced today that he has accepted the resignation of his Castrol GTX High Mileage crew chief Jimmy Prock effective today. Force is currently No. 2 in the Mello Yello Funny Car point standings, a mere 36 points behind rival Matt Hagan, with two races left in the NHRA Countdown.

“Yesterday Jimmy Prock told me he was resigning at end of the season and John Force Racing chose to accept his resignation as of today. My No. 1 goal was to keep the people that I have built this machine with over the past three decades. I am working with JMI and we are making progress to be where we need to be financially. We have a major announcement at the Las Vegas race and possibly some announcements at SEMA as well as into the off-season leading right up to the Winternationals in 2015. When I lay out a plan I stick with it.

“I started hearing rumors after the St. Louis race. I understand people have to do what they need to for their families. I got a call from a team owner this week as a courtesy so I would know that some of my employees were addressing him and looking for jobs now. I told the team owner that I understand this business and they needed to do what they needed to do and I hung up. I was surprised, though, that this was going on during the Countdown – but business is business,” said Force.

“I spoke with Jimmy and he let me know that he was probably leaving JFR at the end of the season for another opportunity. A man has to do what a man has to do but I have sponsors that I am signing contracts with that look at JFR as a four-team powerhouse and here I have people not committed to this team, long-term. They are willing to walk away from me. I can’t promise my people what I don’t have.

“No one is at fault here and I am not blaming anyone but John Force is going to do what he always does; I am going to make a change. As of today, Jimmy Prock will no longer be employed by John Force Racing. He has done a great job for me and I give him a lot of respect. I wish him well. I am not sure if some of my crew members will also be leaving but if they choose to leave I wish them luck. I have to honor my new sponsors and the sponsors that have stood by me as I may possibly have to build a team to finish the Countdown,” said Force.

So far this season Force has three Funny Car wins, seven runner-up finishes and a win at the lucrative $100,000 Traxxas Nitro Shootout.

“When I don’t have it in my heart, then I’m not going to hang around, not even for a championship. I race from the heart; I am about principle; I am about loyalty; I am about teamwork. I am going after this championship and I am going after it with the people that will stay with me for the long haul. That is what I owe my sponsors and fans,” said Force.

“As much as I want No. 17, not even for a championship will I race with somebody that I know is leaving me. I am a big boy and I’m going to put this team back together. I am going to fight, win or lose. If we get No. 17, great, but if we don’t I know I will have gone down with people that believe in me, that trust in me and that will stand by me, not just in good times but in bad times. I am not just racing for this championship; I am racing for the next ten years.”

In 2013 Prock took over tuning duties for Force after a mid-season team swap orchestrated by the team owner that saw Prock leave long time driver Robert Hight. He tuned the winningest driver in NHRA history to five consecutive final rounds in the Countdown including three wins in a row to clinch Force’s 16th Mello Yello Funny Car championship.

John Forces sponsor ships went down and he tried cutting everyones pay , Austin Decided to leave instead of taking a pay cut. This has been a few years back:blob:

Force talks about loyalty, but does not show it himself. Prock gave Force plenty of notice that he was going to leave at the end of the season. Force thanks him by firing Prock with no notice. Way to go John.

Gotta let them go if they are quitting because they wont give you 100% and could decide to turn on you and steal company secrets or worse.

Sounds like they parted on decent enough terms that the door is still open.

I bet it would be hard to work for that maniac though.:blob:

I agree that was a very cool name and he was damned good at what he did back in the day, heck! He may be still a very good tuner if he kept up with all the new electronic stuff going on

Prock only gave notice after Don called him and told him he was trying to steal turners and crew members from John. John is not the bad guy here. When John asked Prock if he was leaving he hemmed and hawed and then came clean. Need to get story straight before we start throwing stones. That said these guys are like free agents any more and grass looks greener. We will never know whole story thats for sure #-o

It's common in my work-world to 'walk the guy to the door' if he gives notice that he's going to a competitor - seems like racing would take a similar view.

When I started may working life, it was common for both the company, and employee to give two weeks notice. Now it is common for the company to let people go with no notice. So I no longer feel the need to give notice as an employee. The last job I had I gave my supervisor notice, at 8:00pm (second shift), that I was leaving. He asked when, I said right now. Goodby.

I'm a firm believer in the two week notice rule. It's my name and reputation on the line. If the company doesn't see fit to accept that, that is on them, not me. It all depends on the company, and the position. Many will do as such, and that is fine as far as I'm concerned, but they cannot come back on you, and say you did wrong. I've experienced it both ways, but no one can say I did not do things right. Keep in mind, you're work history follows you. I will not hire someone who has walked off a job, and when I do hire someone, if they are currently employed, I expect them to give their employer notice. If they will walk away from them, they will walk away from me.

In my situation, it was about a month after the company let a number of workers go, with no notice. People came into work and one by one were called into the office from their work stations. Told to get their personal belongings and escorted off the property. This was a short time after a company wide meeting, about the state of the company (times are hard, but no layoffs anticipated). Then the remaining employees were expected to take "short cuts" that were safety issues.

OK, enough of this. Sorry to get this thread off track

there are no chevy bodied funny cars, so this should be interesting. not a john force fan but I was really hoping to see him take on the charger bodies

Remember this: You can't hire a happy employee away from the company they are with.

Where did you here that, I highly doubt it, Chevy pulled almost completley out of NHRA to focus on neckcar a while back. They said themselves that there was no money in NHRA, funny because I don't know anyone watching neckcar anymore! And like was commented before in this post, all top fuel and funny car's run Mopar Hemi based engines, no matter what there valve covers say! I am not a John force fan, but I don't want this sport to be an all DSR field either. I don't think Ford leaving is good for the sport, it will probably cause more then a few fan's to leave the sport, competition is good for any sport.

I had a Van Shop in the 60-90's. A guy gave me 2 weeks. I kept him. he was going to a competitor. Not only did he come in at night and steal all my hard earned (made) wall templates, then stole all my contacts from my rodex, he even stole the paneling from me to make the templates with. I trusted him, didn't find out till the later. I was in business successfully for 18 years, was very loyal to my employees. The company he went to lasted a total of 5 years.

Pro Stock and Funny Car are two different animals....when was the last time you seen a Chevy Funny Car Body.

I know that sucks, but it's a good, and sound, business decision. It has nothing whatsoever to do with feelings.

I most COMPETITIVE businesses, it's best to cut ties as soon as you are aware that someone is planning to leave.

IF Prock stays, and Force loses, the questions start: Did Force drop the ball, or did Prock just lose interest?

You don't need that kind of crap going on at that level of competition, Force's decision was a good on, as the professional he his, I believe that Prock knows and understands that, and most likely expected to be relieved of duty as soon as he told Force of his plans.

Been awhile.. I'm just responding to the other persons reply that Chevy was all but out of NHRA..if they get out of prostock might as well kill the class...
