I ran into a bunch of dana axles from trucks in the local wrecking yard. They look exactly like dana 60s but have 248 cast into the housing.
I have done some digging on the Internet and from what I can tell they are interchangeable housings. I did notice they have 12 bolt covers though

Are the internals of the two axles interchangeable between a 60 and 248? ie carrier, gears and bearings
Also debating on cutting one of these 248 axles down for a body useage. Is this an option?
Most wrecking yards aroubd here have liquidated their pre 2000 stuff due to scrap value

Definitely not a Chrysler 9.25 as it has dana stamped in the cover
I have read the 248 is conversion to metric
It is a floating axle design. Does not have knuckles on them. If it's a rare axle then they must be damn popular up here because I know of 10 sitting around

Ok found some other information.
12 bolt cover with 248 is a dana super 60.
It will be 33 spline axles
As far as I understand all parts interchange from either the regular 60 vs the super 60

super 60 has a 10" ring gear that bolts on the same carrier as a standard 60, everything else is the same.
