K Frame ID and Information - WITH PICTURES!!!!

I'm pretty new to the forum and recently purchased a '67 fish notch as my project to work on for the next two to three years.

I was not able to find the information on the commonly posted engine swap website link that I have been finding on most K-Frame posts. Hopefully all you sophisticated folks can help me get some good information.

I have two K-frames and I have heard different stories about how to tell the difference and what they are referred to. The one in the car I was told we a v8 K-Frame. The other out of the car with the disk brake set up was at one time installed on a '68 fish that I got on a parts swap. What does a spool K-frame look like? Is the one I have out of the car a spool K-Frame. What is a spool K-frame? Thanks.

yes the 1 out of the car is a spool k frame..it just use a diff. kinda mount the the 1 in the car..the motor mounts would just slide into the slots on the 1 thats out of the car the mounts are round thats all..hope this helps ..and welcome to the board
 
the one you have laying on the ground is a spool mount kind. While the one in the car is a biscuit type mount. Spool mount vs biscuit mount. Plus the spool mount is a v8 frame. the brakes are the BBP. all you need now is the 73+ upper control arms and you can mount it right up.
 
That's what I was hoping to hear I guess. I was afraid the one out of the car was a /6 K-Frame. Can anyone elaborate as to any advantages/disadvantages for either the biscuit or the spool?

If the K in your 67 is original then it will have the one year only idler arm. I had a 67 Barracuda and swapped to a spool with discs and large ball joint UCAs - great swap.
 
Lots of torque rips the biscuit mounts apart. Don't have that problem with the spool mounts. Plus the sway bar goes through the k frame rather then in front of it (the sway bar tends to hit on lock to lock turns on the biscuit mount type frames because the way that are mounted).
If you're going to use the spool mount frame, I recommend that you get it fully wielded (adds strength to the frame) and get it powercoated (I did both to my frame).
 
There is a thread on here that gives the measurements on the /6 vs the V8 K-Frames. Biscuit and spool came with either engine but the mounts were spaced different.

The biscuit type k-member pictures in the first pic is a 68-72 unit with thru bolt idler.

The second K-member is a 73-76 spool type. Someone put a 72 and earlier steering gear, 67-72 pitman, 67-72 centerlink and 68-72 idler arm on it (not original but will work). So if you are replacing those mentioned suspension parts, don't get them for a 73-76 A-body.

When they mention single tab they mean stud mounted. The idler has a piece of metal on top where the bolt head is and on the bottom where the nut is.

On 67 K-members (and 62-66) the idlers has a tapered stud that comes out of it and there is a thick coin thats welded to a tab off the kember that the taper in the idler goes into.

It appears to me the first pics is not a 67 k-member.

67 A-body idler arm looks like this:

I don't have a picture of a 67 Idler setup, but here is a 62-66 stud idlers and it's very similar.
