I'm hoping to get junkyard heads off a truck, so that should bring down the cost. Besides, I meant the cost apart from the heads, intake, and other obvious stuff. So just the pushrods and lifters then? Also, I was wondering why the Hughes Engines website warns against using stock-type rockers on cams larger than the 1523AL. I was hoping to go with a 1928AL or 2328AL.

It'll only bring down the cost if you get good heads but remember those heads are real bad about cracking. Especially between the valve seats. Check them over real carefully before you lay your money down. Also remember junk yard heads will most likely need a full reconditioning (valve guides, new valves, etc...) and that can easily cost $400 to get done so you maybe only save a few bucks.

Stock rocker arms have limitations. It's probably either they don't have a long enough slot and will bind under full lift or they aren't strong enough.
 
All this talk about Magnums cracking has got me wondering why in the heck would anyone want the heads on their motor. Yeah sure I guess they might have there advantages here and there but the possibility of them cracking is not a very good thought.
 
I don't think it's really the issue of heads being prone to crack while being run in an old muscle car; it's more the issue of it being common to find cracked heads at junkyards because the factory ran the engines lean and the heads weren't designed to handle that much localized heat for so long.
