LA318 Edelbrock Magnum v RHS LAX Heads

-
I fitted the RHS heads from Brian to my 340 and the change in the motor is really noticeable and I was very impressed. They came ready to fit with no extra checking/machining required. I measured up and just bolted them on. Runs really strong. I think it would be a shame to get good heads and then mill them to the point they could not be used on a 340/360 or even a 318 stroker at a later date even if the OP does not have that in mind currently.
I've read that they have improved water cooling and I have notice my motor does run colder than before with just the head change. Just something extra to consider.

G`day Tim,
Good to receive some feedback on the RHS/LAX heads, very much appreciated......

Just a couple of questions if you don`t mind me asking:

How much were the shipping fees for the heads from USA to UK?

Do you happen to know the weight difference between the LAX heads and your original heads?

Were your original 340 heads the early high/comp big valve heads or the later 72,73,74 heads? What level of IMM LAX heads do you have ie big valve/full port etc? Do you have any data/numbers/details to support the power increase you are experiencing with the new heads?

I have seen the LAX heads advertised as having a thicker deck to support additional milling, not sure if this is advertising spiel or not??

I do totally share your concerns with milling the heads, particularly new heads.
However, I wouldn't`t be the first to do it, plus, it may work out very well for my personal situation, (if I get it right and am successful)......

Hence my interest and my research......

Thanks again....

You would do well with Brian @ IMM. he races Mopars, when not machining other people's stuff..

Simply contact the man, questions will be answered...

G`day ABBomber,
Many Thanks for your ongoing interest and your latest post, just wanted to say that I was aware of the EQ heads, IMM Engines and MRL performance before my original posting......

In your earlier post you also suggested another forum member here called RAMM (who I am completely unaware of?), would appreciate any more info on RAMM if possible, is this also a speed shop of some sort? Sounds interesting?

In the meantime, very hopeful of hearing back from TimDart in the future and any other members regarding their experiences/thoughts/opinions, particularly about the LAX & Edelbrock Magnum heads.....

All the Best....

When I first got my Dart, I had it inspected at a local hotrod collector's garage... Both Mechanic and Tow Truck driver were "ol' school gear heads".

I told them I wanted a Daily Driver that I could be proud of bringing once in a while to the track. They both told me that, since i'd be mostly on the road, I'd be better with an Iron head... They handle the heat way better but aren't as performant as Aluminium heads.

Both heads you've mentionned are great. It all depends on what part of Street/Strip your balance is going to be... Street : Iron / Strip : Aluminium.

My own Dart is gonna have the Indy/RHS LA-X head...

Many Thanks for your thoughts and comments on this, very helpful and very much appreciated.......

Couple of things I wanted to bring up here:

The top end oiling system differences between the magnum & LA head versions:
Is one oiling system version superior to the other? Is it better to stick with the LA btm end and LA top end matching than have the mixed combo of the magnum top end oiling system with the LA btm end??

318 std low compression issues:
Whichever head I end up using, I am leaning towards skimming/machining of cyl heads to bring up the comp ratio, guessing going from approx. stdish 8/1 to a pump gas 9.75/1...
Anyone prepared to guess (approx) how much to mill off cyl heads?? plus, which head/heads would be best suited to this type/amount of machining??

Both of the above issues are going to help me greatly with my cylinder head choices.....

You will not come anywhere close to 9.75 unless you deck the block and or put in better pistons. Your current compression is more likely in the 7:1 range despite what is advertised. Just my two cents, but if money were that tight, I would find a decent used 318 magnum and do a swap. The 5.2s are being given away as everyone wants the 5.9.

1.92 EQ heads.. They flow 240-ish with good valves, stock valve job out of the box. The combustion chamber advertised at 58 c.c. Eddy's are decent, looked at those for my Magnum. The E.Q.'s are a better deal,if you know the research ... Want ported?...
Contact Brian at I.M.M. engines (Indio ,California- U.S.A) /Mike at MRL Performance here/ FABO member RAMM here as well,by P.M.Describe your situation:(WHAT YOU REALLY WANT & EXPECT/and your complete combination).
Mike and MRL closed. No longer in business.
