Lakewood BBM aluminum bell alignment ring question

The correct one in the kit is very tight on the trans side, and just as tight on the bell side. I have access to a lathe.

I would think it would be best to machine the OD to fit snug, then tap it onto the trans side as I install.

I don't want the bell side fighting me when I actually stab the trans/input.

Would this be the best way to solve?
 
I would see what the specs are on the factory bellhousing to trans is and match that with the ring installed already on trans (hope you can remove ring later, if need be, without damage).
 
I have a similar situation occurring with a QuickTime bellhousing. The ring fits the bellhousing nice but is tight on the bearing retainer.

Sorry, I didn't notice is was BB...assumed SB. Will attach BB issues below.
 
Thanks Dan, I had looked at your other thread on this but I had long already bought this bellhousing.

I should be able to sidestep most of these issues as I will be running hydraulic TOB.
