The Lanc was what saved England. That and the Spitfires and Hawkers.
The guys in the fighters would come up beside a buzz bomb and tip the wings and send the buzzbomb of course and into the channel. Those guys were brave for sure

My grandfather served 3 years overseas in WW2, he never spoke of his time there. My grandmother and my mother endured months at a time not knowing if they would ever see him again, all through the days of rationing.
A lot of them never spoke of what they did. It brought back bad memories and thoughts of lost buddies. Our friend was at the trials of Nuremburg and also had something to do with spies and was sworn to secrecy and to the day she died she never told anyone and only parts to her husband.

My stepfather had 3 brothers in WWII. All in Europe, because they could speak, read and write fluent German. The youngest of the three was an artillery officer.

One day, the local postmaster drove up to their farm house. Postmasters often delivered the bad news in rural areas - the PM would know the parents at home and the kids in the war. My stepfather and his dad did not get to the PM before he started talking to the mom, “...sorry, your youngest is KIA, German artillery shell hit his artillery battery...”.

You can imagine the impact on the parents. My stepfather said his folks didn’t cry much, but they were emotionally crushed.

About 2 weeks later, the postmaster again came down the driveway. The mom collapsed, crying. PM got out, with a bottle of whiskey, and told the old folks, “Big mistake. One man survived that artillery shell - your son. He is recovering in a hospital!”
At that point they started drinking the whiskey to celebrate. Then, the mom started to cry.

When asked why she was crying, she said, “Somewhere, another family thought their son had survived. Now they are being told he is dead...and I know how that feels.”

I can only imagine how many similar stories there are.
That must have been terrible, can only imagine but wonderful it turned out that way for them anyway. That happened more than once.

My father in law talked a lot about playing hockey for the air force , thats the coach in the middle , he is at the bottom right.

Good morning on this somber day ,I to have many uncles that served my mom had 18 brothers and sisters , several severed ,one was also killed in action . I’m a grown man and cannot even begin to understand the emotions that went through the boys back then , brings a tear to my eye watching all the remaining vets , a huge thankyou is not enough for there sacrifice.
Couldn't have said it better Biff

Went to the optometrist this morning. Had a complete check up and everything is good. Still 20/20 but an annoying cataract. She said they won't even look at it unless it comes to the point where I can't drive. I asked her why she checked my bad eye. She said she's looking for any abnormalities in my bad eye that could effect my good eye. Makes sense. Your eyes can tell you a lot about your health.
Neighbour came over this afternoon and changed the snows over on the 300. I worked the gun and torque wrench and he did the grunt work. He's a great guy. I offered him money but wouldn't take any so I said I would service his lawnmower when he's ready to put it away. He was good with that.
Have a great evening guys I'm heading for the Tylenol Arthritis. Cya!!

i did some projects outside yesterday (build a crude podium with a staircase, for the kids to enter the trampoline) and i guess i didnt close the shed door

went to check the mail this morning and the door was laying in the yard...yeah we had a storm come through last nite

so, i had this novel idea
i rehung the door, and this time, i used screws that didnt just go through the trim and the siding...but all the way into the frame of the shed

Snowing here but nothing bad about 2" but the wet stuff and the roads are slippery. Not gonna complain but will mix me a drink and make dinner real soon.

Makes sense to do it that way the first time but no one does.

No kidding
I'd have to check with the last shed I build, to see what I did there...now you got me wondering

But I couldn't complain about this one,it was on the property when we bought it

Got to build me a shed here real soon but nothing big just big enough to hold the yard tools.

I got a lead on a used one, im hoping to bring over next week

That one will be to keep all the kids yard toys in, scooters, bikes and the like

They used to fit in the one I fixed today, but the wife informed me I wanted my tools in that one, so yeah

I have no kids at home and the stuff I have that is the kids will all be gone by next spring. I still have some parts off the Scamp that I plan on keeping to make it stock again but don't plan on restoring another car just the old AA truck I have so not needing lots more room, but as CF said I will make the new shed bigger just in case. lol

A cheap way to build a shed is to build the wall plus the end of the truss to eight feet. Have the truss flush with the wall and nail the sheathing to the truss. No overhang. Use the roofing for a little overhang. Only go eight feet wide with this design but go as long as you want.

Was thinking of attaching the shed to the back of the garage so only need 3 walls and a roof. But still in the planing stage right now.

I built one that way years ago, full width of the garage (14 ft), and had a dividing wall, one side was hers, one side was mine. Put my compressor in there to save space in the garage.
