You do it the same way but they do make LED's that you don't have to worry about the polarity like he goes on about. Just plug in and make sure they have a good connection to light.
Many of the bulbs in my display were T10 / 194 size bulbs and replaced with:

Oh, forgot to add that if you change out your turn signal bulbs, you need to get a turn signal flasher can specifically for LED's or they will flash super fast (or not at all). LED's use a lot less power and the flashers in older vehicles are made for more of a power draw.

I used dimmable uncoated peel and stick 5630 LED strip lighting. Eliminates light and dark spots in the backlighting. 5 meters of it is pretty cheap off ebay. You wont need much more than 3-4 foot of it. I soldered the end to a bulb socket, and plugged it in.
Man that looks good Matt! Is that just around the inside perimeter of the metal housing?

Yep just ran it around the perimeter. Plugged in LED bulbs into the 4 other sockets but the ones i bought were sucky. I bench lit it with a 9v battery. Wanted to test the effiency of this stuff so i hooked all 5 meters of it up to a 9v battery. It took 5 days to drain the battery.

I was considering doing the same to the rear backup lights. They don't seem large enough to produce any usable light with old bulbs. There are so many LED light modules available. Although I haven't looked at the fixture to see how install would work, I'll post if I move forward with something
