Got an 8.15 out of it with the new carb. 60' was 1.810. Ran better didn't run out of gas. Still didn't need 3rd gear. Shifted at 6000 and was running about that at the end. My shift light would just come on. I tried short shifting it at 5800 and it slowed down. Tried shifting at 6200 and it slowed down so 6000 is its sweet spot. Really need a 7.80 out of it. I don't want to take away any drivability. I have always hated nitrous, but have read alot on it in the last week and am thinking about a 125 shot. They claim a fairly stock motor with cast pistons will last if tuned right at a 125 shot. I have the MSD ignition that will retard the timing as soon as I turn the nitrous on. So that is nice. Just wondering if a 125 shot will get me down to a 7.80 I really don't want much faster, Our track requires a cage at 7.50. And I want to leave the car stock looking. Some opinions on the nitrous please. My good friend has a 62 nova that is pretty much just a drag car. 355 tunnelran 2 4's. 4000 stall, 456 gear. He is running high 7.70 low 7.80's. I want to run with him through my exhaust and on radials, and full interior. He predicted my car wouldn't break an 8.80 first time out and it ran a 8.23. So I would like to see the look when I run a 7.80. Help me out.

I know my car ran an 11;70 in the 1/4 a mild 440 456gears 4200 converter and a good chassis with a 125 shot it went 10;50s.If that helps......Artie:thumrigh:

Before help can arrive you need to post your engine, tranny and rear plus tire size, all the internals don't leave anything out. Try also to get the weight of the car and where are you racing/elevation.

1970 Duster full body, full interior, not sure of weight. Guessing around 3200 with me in it. 360 not sure of compression but does run well on pump gas. J-heads no porting. 2.02 valves. Mopar purple shaft 284/480. 727 tranny 3500 stall. 8-3/4 with 391 gear. 750 holley, edelbrock performer rpm intake. Mt Et Street They radials they measure about 27.5" tall. Hooks real nice. Elevation is 1037 feet at the track. Have been told with this combo, that it is quicker than it should be.

A 125 shot would do it...probably 7.50's in the 1/8.

FWIW, My old 360 bottle fed combo ran (at 5800 feet) 13.8 in the 1/4 on the motor and 11.5's @ 117 on a 150 shot...11.1 @ 122mph on a 180 shot.

What were the incrementals on your 8.15 pass with MPH included? MPH around 84ish? have you run it at a 1/4 track, if so, what was the MPH?

With a 1.80ish 60', you're not far off from a good working deal. 1.80 should be in the low 8's in a good working car. A great converter could make a huge difference in that set up as well. IMO, it's running where that engine should, making about 325-335ish hp. High 12 second car, 1.80 60's, so nice job there.

I agree with Flyfish, with a well tuned 125 shot it should run a 7.50 range

Best pass 60' 1.810 84.27mph 8.154 pass. All the passes were close it is a real consistent car. they varied from this pass to an 8.18. 60' stayed about the same. And mph varied from 83.45 to 84.27.

If i wanted to change the gear just to run at the 1/8th mile track so I could use third gear, would it really improve my time much, and what gear should I go with? I was thinking a 5.13, just to play with some. And put the 3.91 in most of the time, but if it really wouldn't make much difference I'm not going to change it.

If all your looking for is 7.8s from the 8.teens, i'd run a 75 shot, that should get you there, I sprayed a 125 shot on my very mild 360 when it was running 8.teens that day & had to let off a bit do too drifting & it ran 7.4s @ 95 from 84 mph, Normally it ran 8.0s with 1.80 60fts., but that day the weather was horrible, I could only muster 1.89-1.90 60ft., but on the 125 shot it pulled a 1.75, so i'm sure it would have ran 1.65 60fts. on a good day on the bottle & 7.3s wouldn't have been a problem, so start off with a 75 shot, It won't last long before you are spraying 150 through it lol.

Thanks for all the input, but would a gear help me any? I would like to do the best I can without nitrous first then decide on how big of a shot itll need.

Found out after a 60 mile roadtrip today that it doesn't have a 3.91 gear. It seemed to cruise at 70 pretty nice. So I jacked it up, and it has a 3.55 gear. A gear might help more than I think.

Also forgot to add the 60 mile trip was to the alignment shop. The alignment waqs way off caster was way off and the car was really toed in. Drives much nicer, doesn't want to jerk one way or another. Alignment may help my times, since it isn't toed in and fighting itself. And I added some 360 emblems to the back of the stripe, looks much nicer.

I'm bettin the "360" logos improve your ET :glasses7:

Seriously though, You could go with a 4.30 or 4.56 gear & drop in a healthy stall like a 4500, these 2 changes will definitly improve your 60fts. & drop those ETs, especially in the 1/8, But you will not be happy on the Interstate , If it were me in your sitch, I'd drop on a Sniper system & juice it with a 150 shot the way it is, Then hold on :D, Of coarse you'll need to make sure theres enough fuel supply.

That is pretty quick for that combo - I know cause my fish with a kinda wornout 340 is just a tad slower - mostly in the 60'. My guess is the 3500 converter is where you are making your time. BTW, I shift at 6000-6100 also and still need to hit 3rd before the end of the 1/8 so go phigure. I have about a 8.50 car.

Ahah! Now I know why you don't get into 3rd before the line. I have 3.91
