I will be installing a mild 318 in my 72 dart shortly. Several years ago I picked up a decent working 904 trans with roughly 80,000 miles on it. It is a lockup 904, early 80's model. A couple of questions:

1. I had someone tell me to get a torque converter with a dummy lockup for it. Does anyone know how this works or where I can get one?

2. Should I even use this trans or should I search around for an earlier model non lockup?

Any Info will be appreciated. Thanks.

if your looking for a little more gas mileage, by all means, use the lock-up. check for no weights and the hub for no cracks. there used to be an after market lockup spring and plate that would bring the l.u. in later. theres also a factory low and high stall available. the high stall isn't a lot, but every little thing helps with a 318.
