Setup: 1968 B/Cuda Convert, 318 from a1985 5th Ave.4spd Manual
625cfm Demon on an Edlebrock Single Plane Intake, Cam seems
close to stock, maybe a bit over it. Just converted from Points
Ignition to electronic w/ the Orange Box.

Situation: I just pulled an old Holley 600cfm 4bbl carb off & put on the
Demon. The Holley was acting up a bit & has one of those
annoyin' 'purge ports', so it was dumping gas onto the mfld
(I think it was a choke issue, but just took it off to examine).
In the meantime, I put the Demon on & WOW, it wants to
smoke the wheels off now.

The old Holley, although it was acting up a tad, was getting me
SUPER MPG. With points ignition, I was averaging about
21-23mpg on the freeway & abt. 16-17 City. Power was so-so,
but it worked OK. Although, I did get passed by a lot of
Riceburners. I think ya'll'd agree that that ain't right..

I Love the Road Demon Carb, but my experience w/ them is that
they don't provide too much daily-driver fuel economy.
Considering that I run a lot of Ethanol (E10-E85, it's basically a
flex-fuel car), my MPG is about -1.5mpg as that of normal
Gas. The Demon takes the 'E' stuff pretty well as long
as you don't let it sit for 3 months, so it's an attractive 'alt-fuel'
carb.

Question: What are some good ways to balance Power & MPG when
dealing w/ a carb like a Road Demon? Or, are there better
solutions, such as getting a Road Demon, JR ? Or something
else?

I don't need to smoke the tires, but my criteria is to have enough low-end torque to remind the Jap-cars whose boss(!) while still pushing 20mpg.

As always, I look forward to your knowledge & comments. Thanks.
