Looking for a used 4x4

I've been looking for a pre-91 4x4 dodge d series, I only want to spend $1500 or less. There isnt much left of them for that price. So I called on a 95 for 950. 1/2 ton 5.9 4wd, I asked how bad the body was, he said he know a place that only charged 60 a fender. Asked if the 4wd worked he said he didnt know how to engage the 4wd but said the tranny line was cracked and he was just adding a quart a week. This is the best option i've seen so far.

What do you think? the trans scares the hell out of me. I do know where a nice 84 d150 prospector is for 1300. 2wd. This may end up being the way i go.

i would get the 95 with the bad tranny. go spend $150-200 at local pick-a-part and swap it in and go!
