Whats with some people? How come guys think they can get something for nothing? I swear, some of these as*holes have some serious stones trying to get me to sell stuff for less than half of what I'm offering.

I realize there is haggling and back and forth when dealing - I do it myself, no one wants to pay full price, but the low ball offers are just pissing me off. I am OK with taking a hit on my junk, happens more than not, its part of the game. But I swear, there's no decency any more.

I know its tough out there so if ya ain't got the dough, you got no business buying project cars or parts.

Anyone else have this happen lately? I'm willing to bet its becoming more and more common. :angry7:

From a different perspective I recently missed out buying an engine/trans combo and found out the guy who bought it paid half of what I was prepared to offer.(I thought My offer would be too low so I never pursued it and missed out)I guess the old addage " it never hurts to ask" is truer than ever.In these dealings I always state my first offer is only a starting point.I also first ask if the seller is willing to negotiate. It seems to be a lost art though. And You gotta have real thick skin these days.

I usually ask...."hay is that the best you can do?" but I'd never intentionally try to insult anybody......at least not like that. LOL

yea now days your just about better to junk it:violent1::violent1::violent1::violent1::violent1::violent1: (dont beat me guys) but its true.... hey i had my 70 duster for sale..no rust in the body at all, had rust in the driver/pass floor pan,8 3/4 rear posi. with 4.56 gear ,moser race axles with screw in studs, racing rims, and slicks, fuel cell and system from front to back, msd 6al box and coil, alum. radi, trans cooler, new control bushing and alignment, race seat, frames tied, all gauges, with shiftlite tech, hood with scoop and factory hood, has mini started ,battery in truck, and relays for electric...i was asking 2500.00 would have took 2000.00 everybody wanted me to take 1500.00...i'll let it sit in the yard..it dont eat,or cost me a dime for it to sit......sorry thats my rant lol :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::wack:

Everybody gas a right to buy aything they want. They also have the right to con you down and offer you peanuts for what you think is gold. Being in business myself I have more people coming at me with lowball offers it's scary. It will take some time before people have disposable income after what this a$$hole in the whitehouse has done to the confidence of this country.

Do what I do, say thanks but I'll pass. There's someone out there that knows your stuff is worth what you want.

I disagree. Value is in the eye of the beholder. If you want to sell you need a thicker skin. If they told you your price was crazy then yes be mad.But just because they offer what they can afford is not reason. I disagree that because a man doesnt have deep pockets he cant pursue his hobby.

if someone gives me a low offer, I say "thanks for the offer I will consider it and let you know"
even if I have no intention of selling at that price, it cost me nothing to say "thanks but no thanks" so why should it upset me?

Thats why I still have my 68 GTS,last straw was when a guy said it was worth $2000 in this economy.Car had a brand new 340/727 that I just dropped in it.Now I am putting a 4spd in it and building it for me.I don't mind people making a FAIR OFFER but for christ sakes my freakin ankles hurt.I'll get my payback on the GTS though as that guy has tried 3 more times to try and buy it:finga:In the spring I will roll up in front of his house about 5am and leave a nasty loud burnout. His neihbors are gonna love me:burnout:

you must remember we had a bigger asshole in there for 2 terms before that.....

Problem is you have some people that have no idea of market value of thier stuff. So you see ads on FABO where the price keeps getting lower and ends up nearly half within 1 months time of orginal post.

So what if someone offered half at the beginning. I'm sure the seller would be pissed. But now that the seller is asking half, then it's ok. Or someone swoops in and gets it for half. When someone else that originally didn't want to insult the seller with the half advertised offer doesn't get the item.

I mean there's a guy here now asking $2500 for a floor mounted cassette setup. That's not market value. Even ask Greg Ward that's been selling a repairing this stuff for years.

Sure, it's irritating as a seller but there's another camp out there who often thinks their junk is worth it's weight in gold.

We had my son's Honda CRX for sale asking $800. I had a guy call me and offer 650 but I was on my way out of town and wouldn't be back till Sun/Mon. Another guy called me and tried to offer me 400. I told him I had another better offer and he was not even close. He then tried to offer 450. I said, I had someone coming to look at it on Monday, call me after that to see if it is still available. I do not feel I have to tell him my current offer as it is none of his business. He then states, "So I can have it for 400 after Monday?" I said no, that another guy was in front of him and if he was serious about buying it, he would have to call after Monday and make me a better offer. I then made a "note to self" in my mind that I am not going to sell to this asshole, even if the other guy passes... Who is this guy to think he can come in after another guy gets in line and try to buy it cheaper???

I don't get insulted on offers unless I'm selling local and they start making offers over the phone before ever seeing the car or part. That really starts to annoying me . I figure anyone low balling over the phone before seeing what I have in person is not a serious buyer about 99 percent of the time.

Don't get yourself all stressed out over it.
Two types of lowballers, the classy ones and then the dirt bag ones. lol
Treat both with a simple no thanks. so you don't knock your brains out.
:burnout:

I have been on both sides of the fence. I have given low ball offers and had some said to me. I don't get upset about it either way. If the offer I give is to low, you as the seller have the option of taking it, refusing it or saying I will get back to you with a counter offer. It's all part of the buying and selling to me. The market will only bare what it will bare.

Jack

Tip to sellers--- when they ask is that the best you can do-- tell them my offer is listed-- what is yours.
my 2cents, Lawrence

personally i think your an idiot if you don't offer low at first. especially in this economy, you never know they may just take it. negotiate. they come in low you counter offer then meet somewhere in the middle...

Listen, I'm not truly upset, probably more discouraged than anything. It took me a year and half to sell my Dart. Had some absolutely ridiculous offers for it which I said no thanks to. But I held out and got close to what I was asking. I will usually agree to a lower price if someone makes a reasonable/fair offer.

But less than half of what I'm asking? Gimme a break.

I am interested in your dart $$$

The only time I really lowball is when the seller wants an offer and won't give you a starting point. If you do that he will give you what he thinks it's worth and sometimes you got to walk. Mopar parts here in the northeast sometimes are in stupid money range.

I wouldn't get too upset with lowball offers as you can always say no thanks. In today's economy at least it's an offer (assuming it was sincere and not just a game). I do think that offering someone half of their asking price is kind of rediculus. While most everyone puts some negotiating room in their prices its not usually anywhere near half price or less.

I recently found out the hard way that alot buy on here for resale. I stopped posting parts on here. If someone needs something I will let them know I have it If they make the right offer I will answer there request. I will not answer requests for my lowest price. Then they don't need it they want it. I have probably one of anything availible for a 70 71 duster or demon and some darts. All 67-69 dart a barracuda parts have a home when they arrive. some stuff for 73-76 are also here. I hoarded 70-71 for years.

I don't mind any offer that comes from a serious buyer. I do get ticked at the guy that makes a super low offer over the phone without even seeing the car/part. The other part I hate is when a BS'er starts saying "I know where I can get one that is cleaner with new this and that for 1/2 that price". OK, then why in the hell didn't you buy it and why are you here?
The one that tops them all is the guy that looks you car over for an hour, asks 10,000 questions (most of them twice), goes for a test ride, and then beats you down on price. You finally give in and strike a deal and they then start asking about payments or tell you how they should have the money next month! WTF! If you don't have the cash in hand or at least in your account at the bank, don't waste someone else's time!

I'm done ranting now too! LOL
