Lowballers

-
It's called buying and selling... its been going on for centuries..always been there and always will be. Low ball offers are just that. If one doesnt like the offer one doesnt have to accept it. Like was said.... a simple "thanks but no thanks" is all one needs to say.

I recently found out the hard way that alot buy on here for resale. I stopped posting parts on here. If someone needs something I will let them know I have it If they make the right offer I will answer there request. I will not answer requests for my lowest price. Then they don't need it they want it. I have probably one of anything availible for a 70 71 duster or demon and some darts. All 67-69 dart a barracuda parts have a home when they arrive. some stuff for 73-76 are also here. I hoarded 70-71 for years.

I don't mind those guys, and sometimes I am one of them, as long as they are "car" guys and are funding more parts for their cars. I think it keeps our hobby alive. I don't care for the professionals that swoop in and pray on people that are down and out and don't really care about the hobby, only the money they can make. These are the guys that have almost kept all us common folk away from the vintage signs, machines, gas station trash. Oh yeah, American Pickers helped too! :wack:

I can understand this from both sides - I've had people lowball me and I simply say no , or if I make a lowball offer it's usually because the price is too high in the first place. You can ask what you want but if its priced to high it won't sell.

i've seen plenty cars listed time after time that the owner says "sacrifice at xxxx$$" , "absoute lowest price" . they start at 10,000 but 3 days later their at 8500 then the next Tuesday at 7000 then 3 days later 5500 and keep bumping until its sold - obviously it wasn't yhe lowest price - seems they test the waters for big money then settle for whatever they can get

when I sell something I set a price and thats it - I dont ask 10000 for something worth 5000

Don't know all the particulars of Your parts/prices but on the other end of the spectrum are the people who think their stuff is all Barreett/Jackson quality or material. I get the "low ballers" all the time and just ignore or tell them "no" rather than get blood pressure elevated. I realy get a kick out of people asking over 25k for a plain jane coronet. Or the guy at Carlisle who had 1800 on a 67 R/T hood. Then there was a guy who "gave" Me all the 15 inch steel wheels I could haul....or recently a 67 R/T in nice shape with alot of parts for 5K.

I am a firm believer in it doesn't hurt to ask what is the worse that can happen a person says No. Everyone is looking for a bargin and I don't care who you are rich or poor. So hats off to anyone with the smarts to ask to pay less! My motto "If it is for free than it is for me"

personally i think your an idiot if you don't offer low at first. especially in this economy, you never know they may just take it. negotiate. they come in low you counter offer then meet somewhere in the middle...
Thanks joe I was trying to think what you said.I look at it like this if the parts cost more then the to build then it,s not worth building the car.Used parts an any car is worthless it,s only worth what one person is willing to pay.The richer people can afford that one millions dollar bolt and the poor suffer for that same bolt. It,s not the lowerballers maybe thats all they can afford. It,s the seller thinking he has the golden rod.If you don,t think so sell something at a low price that other people think is worth money and see hoe many Pm,s you will get saying that he or she would have bought it for more money just so they can try to sell it at a higher price.MONEY IS GREED.I got an idea How about forgetting about how much that bolt is worth and help a friend or a fellow member out.Of course not because it,s all about money. You have to ask your selfwhat is a reasonable and fair offer. My car is not done yet and I got let,s say 50,000 in it.I know I wont get that out of it so why am I building it.Hear is where the love of the game is. Mark

Car, parts, house, bike or whatever is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
If your trying to sell something and you get one offer, guess what.

All you have to do is say, No, and move on. No need in taking it personal..

RIGHT ON! I always put in my add, "Test pilots and tire kickers need not apply. The ones that piss me off the most is the guy making a low offer over the phone. I say sure only if you can have the cash in my hands in 10 minutes,,,they still don't know where I am...no GFY....

"Thanks but No thanks" works for me

NOW for the caveat...

The jackhole that comes over, asks right off the bat what's the bottom dollar, you tell them, right now $***, then they look over car for an hour +, want to go for a drive, and offer 1/2 or less of the lower number... GTFO a-hole.

I don't even consider offers over the phone. Most of the time they offer something and you say OK, Bring cash. They show up and try to dicker lower... basic offer and acceptance of the sale is already done, bring your agreed amont and pick up your stuff, guess not.

i usually state in my adds that the price is "firm" and that there is no room for negotiation if i want a certian amount for something. when im on the phone, i also reiterate. if im willing to negotiate ,then i will post OBO, and let the dealings begin. i am guilty of low offers but that is only to get feeback on where they stand and there was never a price listed. whats upsetting is when these fools throw out a "make offer" ok i will and if they are going to get upset about it ,then POST A PRICE, man i hate this make offer BS. just list a price and we can go from there.what kills me is these idiots that have mopar parts that have been sitting around, they have no use for them, and think they are worth a left nut.i just read an add for a 440 in a 69 chrysler.beat up,used up,no carb or exhaust and nothing covering up the open holes ,covered in rat turds ,wanting 2000 bucks and you have to pull it, followed up by an add for an a833 ,no bellhousing,no shifter, just a bare 4 speed for another 2000 bucks! **** makes me sick.

Instead of lowballs,

Let's go for some hiballs... :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers:

We got a guy down here that won't give you a price until you make an offer.
Then he laughs, and gives you an absolute top dollar mint condition type price for a used rusty part. if you counter offer, he usually doesn't acknowledge that you have said anything.
I have no idea how this guy ever sells anything.

I DO SELL ALOT ON HERE, ANS I think MOST OF MY PRICES ARE IN-LINE WHAT THEY GO FOR, BUT I DO SOMETIMES LIST ON THE HIGHER SIDE FOR THE MORE VALUBLE ITEMS. but, i can tell you this, if you ask for my number and/or leave me a number to call. bet your bottom dollar i will call or accept your call. i think when a person on here knows who and talks to the seller, leaves them feeling much more confident!.

also, you can ask 99 percent of the members on here that have talked to me on the phone, or in person, i am alot more willing to help them out in the name of this sport.
my prices always reflect the buyers additude, and i can tell when they are blowing smoke, or genuine about being strapped for cah. i am easy to deal with, and my final selling price is always fair

I pm-ed someone here with what I thought was a reasonable offer. (Splitting the shipping). In return I got a response with an explicit word. Then going into got pay bllis rent etc. Ha,,y I too pay bills rent. Why not be professional in your response. I did'nt pm hay pri&k. Will you take x$$ for what your selling because the rent is due, kids need new shoes. Let's just be professional.

I don't get upset at low ball offers it just reassures me that there's a market for what I'm selling. I get a kick out of the guys that add cash after the price "would you take $100 cash" I always think "no how about $100 in food stamps"

If someone knows darn well how much a car is worth and what they're offering is ridiculous, then that might indeed be ridiculous.

But sometimes seemingly lowball (compared to the asking price) offers are not unwarranted. Case in point, my Dart was on ebay for around $3500. Which was ridiculous, even without seeing it in person and assuming the best. I sent someone near to it to go look in person, and the price there on the sign (I still have the sign) was $3200, which was crossed off and $2200 was written in under that. It was probably a $1500 car. I got it for significantly less than that. But after really going through the car, I think it's really over a $1500 car, it just happens to be ugly due to the paint.

So... you just never know. In my case, making a low-ish offer resulted in a happy buyer and a happy seller.

Don't take it personally, just blow it off and move on and find someone who meets your price.

I just realized this is a 3 month old thread. Well, I typed all this, so...

I really don't think it's about price but people's ethics. Try giving something away for FREE on craigslist and you will meet the scum of the Earth. Half won't show up and the ones who do want you to wrap it in a gold ribbon for them. I've been de-cluttering all of our old stuff lately and I usually list stuff at ridiculous prices to get it out the door. If something is worth $100 I'd list it for $20, anything under $50 was free. Seems simple enough, but still have 5 flakes before anyone shows up, and then they still try to haggle and play games. I was selling a working Craftsman Lawn Mower for $5 and a guy showed up and wanted me to pay HIM $20 to "Haul it".

Everything now goes in the trash or the Goodwill.

Yes, I've dealt with the CraigsList crazies. I even have a separate email address for that sort of thing due to the crazies I've met. But I've also had a good number of perfect transactions. I ask a fair price, they call, say they're coming, show up, give me the $, say a couple polite words, then leave. It's just part of the game. Sometimes it's not worth it. Other times it is. Hell, probably half the country's population is totally bat **** insane, so if half the people you or I deal with in any context are nucking futs, it's not too surprising.

Yep, X2. I have a $500 car listed on CL, you can not believe what goes on with these bottom feeder types. Guys email and say they will give half. Then when you talk to them on the phone they want it for even less. GTFOOH.

buy low, sell high

generally, if you want $1000 for something, you list it at $1500 then everyone walks away happy.

your duster, if you listed it for $3k, somebody would have offered $2k
