Ive heard alllot of good things about lunati and wanna pick up one of theyre cams.

73 duster
i have a 318..973 smog heads...
aftermarket flat top (not zero deck) pistons...
eddy rpm...
Carter AFB 600cfm
Summit headers

it has a stock 904 but probably gonna go to a 4speed

its not gonna be a power house, but i want it to be quick.

Cam is the next choice...

Ive been looking at the 60401 but was wondering if there is a better grind for my set up??

Any Input???

Thanks!!

Not to throw off your thread but Schneider Racing Cams is down here in San Diego and have been making cams for Decades. If you tell them what you are going for they'll have it or make it. Jerry Cantrell is a really nice guy that has been doing this for a long time.

The voodoo cams are my favorite grinds. I would go for there 268 advertised one for a 318.

60401 is a great cam, I first had it in my original 318 with 302 heads and performer intake and duals off the stock manifolds. I reused it in my new 360 in my sig and it is a torque monster, possibly too small for the cubes and compression but it works great.

What kind of gears are you looking at? 3.23s would work well with that combo. Also what kind of pistons do you have? You might benefit from stepping up to a pair of J heads or ported 302s, those smog 318 heads are pretty weak on flow.

I guarantee you if you use Comp's 265DEH cam you'll love it! Make sure it's advanced at least 4° or more.

Lunati cams rock! :burnout:

I'd run a 60402 though :D . Should be fine for your current set up, and give you a little room if you decide to make more mods in the future.

I have a 60403 in my 318 build for my Dart (RHS heads, forged pistons at zero deck, ~9.5:1 compression) and a 60404 in my 340 build for my Duster (ported 308 heads, hypers .018" proud of the deck, ~9.7:1).

Brian jumping in with the comp cams recommendation!! I would like to run a Lunati roller cam in my 408 build, but my builder wants to run a Comp.

That's two builders that I respect recommending a Comp cam. I may to rethink things...

If your thinking Lunati for a roller build I would highly recommend the 60434, if the rest of your build is up too it. For an off the shelf cam, I couldn't be happier with the power. I'm running a 29x12.5 mickey thompson sportsman pro's on the street and I can't get them to hook :) Check out my build thread, somewhere close to the last page is more details on my engine if you need more details. I have to pull it this winter to cure an oil leak and plan to dyno it then as well, I will post numbers once I do. Good luck to you and OP with whatever choice you go with, I really don't think you can go wrong with most of the big names.

yea it could use a different set of heads but theyre brand new recon heads, so ima just leave em be. Eventually a big block is going in so i just want something that will get decent gas mileage and be fun on the street! The pistons im not sure what they are but they are flat top with little valve reliefs. not zero deck though. My compression should be somewhere around 8:1 ?? maybe less lol

i was thinking of throwing a little juice at it. no more than 100 im sure itll be able to handle it.

but with with headers, that lunati cam, and eddy rpm i should be around 300hp..hopefully lol

reference
i just finished a similar 318 street motor build with the 60402 cam ...
* bored .040" over
* zero decked
* KB 167 pistons
* rebuilt 302 swirl port heads / gasket matched
* Holley street dominator manifold
* Holley 570 CFM carb
* Spitfire shorty headers
* to go with beefed up 904 trans / 2500 stall / 3.73 SG in 8.75 rear end

haven't had it on the road yet, but it dyno'd out @ 280 HP / 310 ft/lb torque

60401 is the 256/262 dur. cam, 60402 is one step up at 262/268. Both are voodoos... Go to Lunatipower.com and look at their lineup.

And people laugh when I recommend that cam. Brian, tell'em what there missing!

sorry to sound ignorant but what do the durations do for my set up? More duration requires a motor with higher compression right? Im leaning more towards the 01 for my little 318

More duration shifts the powerband higher,in the rpm range.The bigger duration cam can make higher rpm power,with a loss in low end torque.MoPeds spot on, in his information.

I'm running an older Lunati Bracket Master (not sure of the part #) in my 360 with a built A999 trans. It's 233* on the intake and exhaust at .050 (288 advertised) and .480 lift with stock '77 heads and bottom end and a Holley Street Dominator intake and Edelbrock 600 carb. This combo put down 276hp to the wheels on the dyno (roughly 325 at the crank). Drives well on the street but you WILL need a higher-stall converter. I'm running a 2.93 rear gear and when you get into it you can really feel come on around 3500rpm (I shift at about 5000). Surprised many a Honda in light-to-light action and with the tall rear cruises effortlessly at 70 turning about 2700rpm with plenty left for passing if needed.
