Ok, I have been trying to track down an idle problem on my 70 Dart and I was working on it tonight and when it was getting dark i noticed the drivers side rear plug wire was shorting out on the headers. This is not a suprise since the plug wire hits the header. Anyway. I am wondering what if any ideas you guys have on fixing this. Obviously I am going to replace the plug wire, but my idea was to replace the wire with a plug wire that has a 90 degree boot on it so that it routes under the header... If i am going to do this, what wires would you recommend. I am acustomed to using Accel 8mm wires, but if I go with the standard replacement wires for this engine ( 318 ) they will have just a straight boot on them. I need this running before saturday morning, so fast help would be great....

a little more info, the Spark Plug wire just barely hits the header at the top of the boot, the header is at the point were the plug wire at the top of the boot and the wire are resting on the header. If i pull tension on the plug wire toward the engine, it will not hit the header.

Hello Dakota- You can always buy the generic set of Accels(if that`s what you like) that are random length and you cut to fit yourself. Some sets come with both straight and angled plug ends. The main thing you want to do is keep those wires off and away from your headers, otherwise you`ll bake the insulation off the new set. There are some companies that make plug wire heat shield that`ll slide over the wires. Let us know what you do.

Longer wires with a 90* boot will help out. And you still may needa little separator on the valve cover to make sure its off. The way i have mine is from Summit and some universal cut-to-fit MSD heli-core wires. Works out awesome, wires hitting the header is no longer a concern...justa option :thumblef: Picture makes it look kinda weird/close, but there is a ton of clearance there.

if you have a local speed shop, taylor makes single wire replacements. they also make the "space age boots" for over the plug boot and wire like longgone said. try to keep 5 and 7 away from each other as well, they can crossfire since they fire right after each other.
