Just a question about the up and down play of the pitman arm shaft on my 68 dart with factory manual steering. If I adjust the jam nut and screw at the top of the steering box, will it take the up and down play out of it? I replaced the idler arm and noticed the pitman arm shaft has some play up and down, it moves up and down when you turn the wheel also.

............Possibly, but what u need to do first is loosen the big jam nut on the inputshaft end, then turn the end piece clockwise to take the play out there, then adjust the screw on the top of the box, it may very well be worn too much to help it out enough, but give it a try.........the factory service manual is a wealth of information.........kim....

Thanks, yeah I found a few pages of it and it explained exactly what you are talking about. Going to give that try and see if it helps. You can watch the drag link move a little with the pitman arm up and down as you turn the wheel.
