Can anybody explain to me how to tighten up the slack in a manual steering box? i've got about 4 inches of slop in my steering wheel. I rebuilt my whole front end but reused the original steering box so I'm pretty sure thats the problem.

I'd start by enlisting the aid of a friend, wiggle the wheel back/ forth while watching the underside linkage for movement. The "slop" in the wheel before anything underneath moves will give you an idea. Also "eyeball" the column/ coupler for any problems there

..............this is best done out of the car..........back off the nut on top of the steering box.....back off adjusting screw 1/2 turn.......then back off lock ring on the input end........turn adj until snug.......back off 1/8 turn......tighten lock ring......adj the top screw till the play is taken up.......tighten lock nut........ofcourse there is no replacement for a factory service manual................kim....
