Okay, here's a dumb question for you's/
excluding factors such as pushrod length, valve to piston clearance, etc, what is the maximum safe deck cut for a 318?

Is there a rule of thumb for a safe limit before the structural integrity is comprimised? (Not that I want to run an engine that close to the limit of course)

Head or block?

Heads can be cut .080 as far as I know, maybe more, but thats my limit.

Block should take .060.

Check bolt length and thread depth, u dont wanna bottom out.

might not even come close

Thanks 1W&CG.
It's no biggie to turn a bit off the bottom of the head bolts. I'm planning to have my block square decked anyway, so it can't the (reportedly) woeful deck height that 318's have to take a bit extra.
I still need to mock the bottom end up to see where things lie as is. The workshop got pretty dusty after all the liquifaction from our feb 22 earthquake dried out, and the wind began to blow.
