Use metal sheets of .060-.070 thickness, mrmopartech

Converted to gauge; .058 is 17ga, .065 is 16ga and .072 is 15ga, if you had to put some bends or curves in your patch you could go to 18ga which is .049 this would make it easier to form.

Wow, .060-.070 is WAY too thick. You'll never form it smoothly. New cars routinely use .029 for outer metal. Definitely forms much nicer. I could see thicker for inner metal, but not for outer. By the way, I'm a diemaker and work with sheet mdtal daily.

The metal on my Duster measured out at .035 , replacement stuff measured .032 close enough :)

so it worked well for patch pieces ?? she my cuda had a vinyl roof and when i took the roof off there is a couple places oround back window that have to be patch to thin to just try and mig them up

rt7413 the closest thing to .029 is 22ga which is .028, .035 is 20ga

The best thing to do with patches (or anything for that matter) that are going to be welded in is match the thickness of the metal you are patching. It is much easier to weld like thickness metals, it will take the same amount of heat to join then.

Hey DusterDon since your a metal worker is there a way to put beads in sheetmetal without a bead-roller?
The metal shops around here suck nobody has a bead roller!

id use 22 ga if you are going to weld the patch in. just makes for easier welding, and not too hard to form

A little off topic, but what gauge metal came from the factory and what gauge metal is used on the repo (ie: Paddock) quarter panel skins?
