My apologies if I am in wrong forum for this question.

I have a '67 Barracuda bracket car, RB w/ 4-speed. After recent trip to track, I noticed the upper mounting ear on the stock style starter was cracked. Reason unknown at this time. Figured as long as I had to replace starter might as well go to mini. Installed and discovered interference with Z-bar.

This is a long time build (early 80's) that has always been 4-speed. For long time was a B-motor car and I switched to RB after destroying my B motor. Obtained mini via Summit (part
# SDM-PCE393-1013.

Question is if I need to go back to stock style starter of did I order wrong one from Summit?

Thanks - any help appreciated.

Photos show area of interference. Thinking I might be able to clearance by grinding material off both components.

We fried a clutch one time from that type of interference. If no other solution from push rod adjustment or something like that wasnt available, I would consider welding 2/3s of a 1.25 pipe piece on there, then cutting the offending piece out. but im shooting from the hip with that....stirring the creative juices.

longer throwout bearing?
shorter TO bearing?

Not the correct factory orientation, but you could possibly flip the Z bar 180*? (end for end), and see how much (if at all) it affects your clutch rod angles...
Not a correct picture, but it illustrates what I mean.
Otherwise, a RobbMc or other clockable starter would probably do the trick.

From the pictures, it looks like the OP's Z bar is not an OEM piece.

Thanks for suggestions. Correct observation in Z-bar in my car is not an OEM piece. It was fab'd many years back. I'd prefer not to change it out of re-do clutch linkage, so I think the option I'm going to take is to go back to stock style starter. planning to swap out tomorrow.

My skills with welder are at novice level. Most jobs end up looking like aftermath of StarWars battle scene.

Again thanks for advice and suggestions. Will update when swap to stock is complete.

FYI the ball stud broke off of the reproduction bellhousing bracket at the (cold) weld on my GTS. Luckily the face plated 18 spline made it easy to drive home.

My advice would be to re-weld the ball stud or what I did which was mill out the weld and use a bolt in, frame side ball stud on the bellhousing bracket.
