Mopar 284/528 mechanical camshaft

I could see that happening as the 318 is such small displacement it's not a torque monster to begin with. Then you add a single plane intake and a really big cam it's even worse on low end torque. Heads and compression ratio being another consideration. If you had small valve 318 heads that didn't flow good those parts wouldn't work well at all. You probably needed at least a 4000 stall to make that combo work right even with good flowing heads and decent compression.
Exactly correct. The whole package has to work together.

Rebuilt kb piston 340 9.5, ld340, hedman headers, 4 spd, stock x heads, 4.10
.528 cam installed at 107 or +5* adv 16mpg fwiw.
33 total by 2200rpm is all it liked.
3320lbs
Tire spinning 13.80 et.
The .528 cam work its absolute best 8-10 degrees advanced. It breathes fire and fires tires with the slightest goosing.
Slicks are a must when installed like that.
Mileage WILL be 9-10 mpg.
You literally lose about 6mpg as a bi product of 8+ advance.
The above combo with .528 I bested 16mpg @107

Just some of my experiences with that cam.
440's love it

Indeed. Some are worth digging up.
Relevant to some questions/posts lately.
Kinda funny folks getting excited by running 13's with a solid lifter cam. I ran low 12's with a 272 crane baby hyd. The combo and the guy tuning it makes a world of difference.
