ir3333 yes I have driven it quite a lot. It accelerates, but not quite as much as I would like you know?
 
Headers, port heads, run mopar 360/380 crate roller cam, get carb done by good shop, so gett convertor to match cam, head flow numbers rear end gearing...couldkpick up 40 to 60 at the tire with those mods
 
i would do a little investigating before anything.
Compression test and check your rear gear ratio.
a good tune up and proper distributor curve can make a dramatic difference
 
Show a video of it running. I'm guessing, the 380/360 crate.(nasty idling camshaft,for most folk. If so ,headers and tuning might surprise you.
 
It should be plenty fast with either of the 360 magnum crates assuming they are running right. Will it boil those tires? If not the tranny may be slipping, it may have 2.73 gears and a low stall or maybe those manifolds are killing it if is the 380 HP version. I wouldn't mess with any internal stuff like cams until the existing motor is running like it should. The car is as light as a new Civic so anything over 300hp should impress.

From Temple...stationed over in Hawaii for the next 3 1/2 years. I plan to come back to and stay in Texas after my retirement from the AF, as long as my better half is cool with it.

Oh-and I'll agree with the assertions here-a good running 360 Magnum set up correctly should motivate that Barracuda along pretty damn smartly. Timing, carb, gearing, suspension-all that stuff contributes to a good running combo
 
What gears should I be running in my rear end? And how can I tell what gears are in it so I can make sure that I am not ordering gears that I already have?

As said by several responders already, we need more info on how you intend to use the car and what is already there. Your Barracuda will perform best with a matched package of components: engine, trans convertor, rear gears, etc. They all need to work together for optimum performance.
The initial pics of the engine look like one of the higher-horsepower crate 360 engines since it has a single-plane intake. Something I haven't seen yet is what make and size of carb is on it or whether the carb is vacuum or mechanical secondaries.
Is the rear end open or Sure-Grip? You can get an idea of what gearing is in the rearend by counting how many revolutions of the drive shaft compared to one complete revolution of a rear tire.
Do a lot of investigative work on the car and post what combo you currently have and what you want the car to be before you start changing components and spending money. Your grandfather must have had friends that possibly helped with the build and may know a lot about the car.
Is your Barracuda going to be a daily driver or just a weekend toy? You have a lot of wide-open space in Texas and won't be happy taking a long-distance cruise with steep gears that are best suited to a strip-only application.
There's a lot of knowledge and experience on this site and we're all here to help one another. Take advantage of it.

If that was a chassis dyno, then that is pretty good hp. You lose about 25-30% thru drivetrain depending on trans condition and convertor slippage. That would equate to 350 hp or better engine hp. I'll bet your grandfather had some paperwork somewhere about the engine specs. (shoebox, or file cabinet w receipts) There are some good tuning tips for small blocks on this site that will really wake up a 360. Make sure it is putting out what it should. Get timing lite and vacuum guage for tuneup.
 
Yeah it was on a rolling dyno. The shop is closed i will call tomorrow and make sure that is the hp at the wheels and not the engine

The FIRST thing you should do, is remove those exhaust manifolds and install a set of tti headers, like has already been suggested. You have a high output engine, bolted to some terrible low performance manifolds. your current exhaust system is more at home on a stock 2 barrel 318
 
Looks like a 380 hp create engine, the manifolds probably killing 30-50hp, headers would probably the only thing that needs to be done, but if more power than that is needed eddy heads would be my next choice.
 
there were 3 different 360 crate motors, 300 hp 320 hp and advertised 380 hp which was really 397 at the crank,, looks like u have the 380/397 hp motor,,, 30 percent of 397 is 119 that puts u at 278 hp at the wheels on iur car on that dyno pretty good,,, i highly doubt its a 408 the 360 are no longer available thru mopar performace as a crat motor as far as i know,,, depending on what cam you have,, for the street you may find a dual plane intake will be better on the street,,, a set of GOOD headers will wake it up and some carb tuning,, but to tune the carb you really need to have a starting point,, cam,,,rear gear,,,tire size,,comperssion, etc,,not that it cant be done wiht out some of that info just a better starting point,, cheaper in the long run if you have that info,, also what the convertor is,, and what you realisticly really plan do to with the car as far as driving it,,, street /strip or mostly street,,, but you have a great motor there no need to go in side it,,, just a set of headers maybe a convertor,,good exhaust and mufflers,, and a nice rear gear and tire combo,,, nice find
 
to feel the power of any engine , you need the proper gear ratio , and the tranny that goes with... i have some 3.23 gears with a modified 727 transmission , but to really feel my engine s power ill need a minimum of 3.91 gears , and i have exactly the same engine as you in your barracuda ...it as potential , lots of potential , the best engine and recipe that you can have in the street , ill never change for a 318-340-360 , i love the old engines as well , but this crate is amazing for street and race applications , in perfect order you push more than 400 hp and close to 450 ft-pds of torque , eyes closed

All except for the wheels. Even the tires are the same. It's finally shaping up. I'm at college right now but I get to come home this weekend and finally drive it. Headers are coming this summer to finally open that 360 up!
 
wanted to give yall an up date. It's got headers!! Hedman Long tubes to be exact.

also i checked a few more things. it is a demon 750 cfm carburetor, mechanical secondaries. 3.23 rear end gears.
