Just got some wheel vintiques 15x8 rally wheels.
Who makes the closest paint in an aerosol can ?
Thanks
Jim

KRYLON Metallic "SPECIAL PURPOSE" #1403 "dull aluminum"

Is that as bad as it has a posi instead of a sure grip ?

Ordered 4 cans of 1403 Dull Aluminum Metalic Krylon today from Oriellys.
5.99 a can
Thanks for the info

Used to be able to get this from the Mopar dealer, maybe they sell it yet? I’ve used it many times and it’s very good, never had any issues with it what so ever

I looked it up.
You can still get it for like 22.95 a can.
Since this is just a driver I will see how the 5.99 per can Krlon looks.
If it looks close I'll be happy.
It would be interesting to see the paint colors side by side .
What I have also read about the Krylon is that once you clear coat it that it looks very close.

I will take some pics once I get the 15x8 wheels on the car.

I have always used the can of wheel paint they sell at the parts stores. Its dead on compared to original wheels and less than 10 bucks a can. The Mopar paint is a good match but I have had issues with the cans clogging. Their engine paints have a lot of issues too.
That silver powdercoat that comes on the repro wheels is nowhere close to looking correct. Not sure why they even bother.

Thanks for all the replies !
You guys rock !
That's why I enjoy this site !

the krylon is more accurate

I’ve seen the krylon next to 60k original cars So Cal rust free. And comparing the areas behind the trim rings and center cap not exposed.

mp stuff has more gloss than original too

I forgot to post the pic of the totally auto paint after I restored my Newport road wheels...

that will be more than enough for 4 wheels.

you can use it for Dash silver and non textured grille silver too. And 72-up acorn rallye center cap silver

You guys shoot them straight or use a primer base coat, gray or black? I've got a set of 14's that Ill need to refinish.

Grey primer

Edit. Grey primer, then rear side semi gloss black, then front side silver.

Original Formula stuff. Spendy, but dead nuts on.

How many cans you think it would take to paint a set of 4 Rally wheels? They are getting sand blasted so I figure primer then the silver. At $25 a can I do not want to have a whole can or two left over.

4 cans would be plenty.
The 1403 dull aluminum works great.
I primed mine first with black.
Used krylon 1403 next.
Then sprayed it with satin clear.

Sorry, was on vacation and just got back. 2 cans will easily cover it.
