Took the car to the track last night, after rebuilding the carb, and putting 4:88's in the rear, changing the leaf springs adding the cal-tracks and rancho 9000's.

60' were
2.131
1.987
2.044

The 1/4 mile times dropped at least .5
Comming off the line sideways is not what I wanted to do.
between the firs and second run I added 4 flats of preload to the bars with no help to the 60"
I swear it felt like they were filling the water box with anti-freeze.
The tires would not start to grip during the burnout, like they normaly do. It usually takes a short burnout to get them to start pulling the motor down.

I did a longer than usual burn out on the second run and very little smoke and no hook.
Last run. LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG burn out, still they wouldn't pull down the engine. Felt like the were on ice.
I don't think it's the tires, as the last time out was only a few weeks ago and they were fine.

Guys, I need some help getting this thing tuned in.
This was a nasty step backwards. I am abut to put the 6 leaf springsand pinion snubber back in.

Maybe you have to much pre load making it to stiff ? I'll trade you a nice set of 002/003s for the caltrac set up. :wink:

Hows the trap RPMs with the 4.88s ?

First run was withthe bars just touching the springs.
Last run I thought sounded real good Running just about the right rpm through the traps. Felt good, with some spinning off the line, hit the shift light everytime, and was pulling right through the traps, and it ran slower.

Whats the rest of the time slip look like compared to last time ? 1000', 1/8 mile ?

Norm what hole do you have them set in top or bottom.

If they were touching the spring and you put 4-flats into them thats too much.
They need a little room to work sometimes. Every car is different.
I started out with 1/8" gap and the bottom hole.
Mine are now set to just touch plus 2 flats and they are now in the top hole. They seem to hook better too.
What RPM did you leave at?
I found with mine the higher the RPM I leave at the less they spin.

Last time out
With mufflers plugged
60' = 1.984
330' = 5.384
1/8 = 8.254
mph = 84.97
1000'= 10.777
1/4 = 12.930
mph = 105.44

60' = 1.838
330' = 5.239
1/8 = 8.105
mph = 85.13
1000'= 10.617
1/4 = 12.766
mph = 104.27

This time out with mufflers pluged

60' = 2.131
330' = 5.651
1/8 = 8.603
mph = 83.00
1000'= 11.178
1/4 = 13.403
mph = 99.98

60' = 1.987
330' = 5.399
1/8 = 8.290
mph = 84.61
1000'= 10.818
1/4 = 12.981
mph = 103.74

60' = 2.044
330' = 5.469
1/8 = 8.366
mph = 84.40
1000'= 10.901
1/4 = 13.077
mph = 102.64

I'm with Adam..too many changes at once, IMO. You should have the car sitting with no preload at first, then, work your way tighter. I would also suggest lowering the rea, and raising the noes of your car..the T bars are not able to help weight transfer when the nose is so far down. I'd raise it 1" in the front, and try to keep the body close to level, maybe 1/2" over the lenght of the rockers' pinch weld. Then adjust the bars to have a gap of 1/8". See how the car reacts..I would not touch the carb yet, just be resigned to the fact that it will need work when you get it to hook. as soon as you can launch without spinning, then stop the suspension work, and switch to the carb. wehn the carb is dialed, then go back and polay with the suspension again. With the times you ran in the past, you should have no wheel spin.

It actually sits lower in the rear now, the 6 leaf ones sat much higher.
It was just real odd that the tires would never start to grab during the burnout.
Time for a set of slicks.

something is missing!!!!!.....i have less of a motor and run low 12's with a 1.72 60' and exhaust.

what do you means MUFFLERS PLUGGED??

The Warlock Mufflers have a cap on them so you can run thru them like open exhaust.

Well you really cant compare the time slips if the others were run un capped and those were run capped. Plus if your tunning the car for it un capped its not going to run the same threw the muffs.

Wish I didnt have small bolt patern. Id let you try my ET street radials.

All 5 of the runs listed are with the mufflers capped.
I did have 2 seperate runs with the caps off, but I didn't list them

Yep, I must be over looking something, just can't put my finger on it YET.
Mike, What tires were you running on the back?

I watched the video of the 3 runs, and the tires were just putting out a light haze of smoke, not like they usually do. Like I said before. Last time out the tires would heat up quick and start to grab. This time was like they didn't want to stick to the track at all.
Maybe it was the cooler temp outside, I don'tknow.
