Well my /6 has been running hot about 200'F idling.Water pump was not working so I replaced the thermostat now the water pump works I think I can see the water moving but is is moving kinda slow but not super slow.Is that normal I cant find in my manual anything about the speed of the water. The car is still running hot about 200'F idling.I just have replaced the radiator but the new radiator is a little smaller but auto store said it would work.

I am uning a temp gauge I have laying around.Gauge in car dose not work yet the part is on the way.I though 200 was way to high.

It is about 5* hotter so I subtracted so 195* idle temp.
I read in my manual that if you hose going from radiator to
the motor(the top hose) if that hose it hot the water is
circulating but I can see it is not really moving.I think I will just buy a
new pump.

I think you're wasting your time and money buying a new pump. They usually do not go bad unless they leak or the bearings go bad. At only 200 degrees I don't think you have a problem.

Your car idles at 195*? IIRC the standard thermostat in 1973 was a 195* thermostat. Or, the previous owner may have put in a 195* unit. If that's what's installed in your /6, your cooling system is working fine.

Well with a 195 thermostat water dose not circulate.Take the thermostat out and it circulates.I tried putting the thermostat in both was and sill nothing. What are the disadvantages to running it without a thermostat.

you got thev t sat in properly ? It will not circulate until temp reaches 195+ , think you're wasting your time . If it were overheating it would be spweing fluid into recov tank or on the ground . 200 5 deg over , it's not a cow , 5 deg is nothing
