Moser Engineering Rear Ends?

-
No just taking the 8 3/4 so they can measure. I'll buy there ends for the Dana. Saving the 8 3/4 housing for a future project. Thought about buying axles from Dr Diff but i figured if I was already at moser I'd just have them Build them so I don't have to worry about screwing up a measurement

Something I remember about mine when you buy your ends. I use 3.5" backspacing on my 11.25 wheels. So big dish type wheels. They put some type of large ford axle ends on it. I want to say torino ends, but the name escapes me. Whatever they were, they were stronger than the standard dana bearing ends.

What is the reason for this since by all accounts everything associated with the 60 is heavier?
Even the tubes.

I know mine, which is a narrowed S60 for a mini tub A body is really close to a stock 8.75. Or so strange told me. I can tell you just from handing both of them it's darn near the same.

The reason is the aftermarket knew it's more money to them to use the 9 inch ford. That's why they make all the **** for them.

They aren't lighter, they take more HP to drive and they cost more money to get equal strength. It's all about the money.

And the BIG lie, which is...if I use a 9 inch (same for an 8.75) I can set up a second (or third) third member and change them out. I can have a highway gear, a city gear and a drag gear. I've been doing this fpsince 1980 and I've never, NOT ONCE seen anyone that runs below Comp Eliminator ever change a gear set at the track. I'm sure it happens, but it ain't a regular deal.

And street car guys damn sure ain't doing it. It's a royal PITA, and it isn't fun to do.

Yeah that always seemed like a BS selling point to me. I've seen one time where someone swapped out a center, and that was for a major once-in-a-lifetime road trip.

Strange Dana, great quality. Sold my 8 3/4 before I broke it. Racing a 9 second 76 Duster with a big block, foot brake car with no power adders.

So like this biggest thing, I keep hearing about why people don't chose Danas is because of weight. I mean i seen in that earlier post with the weight of the two. I mean are they really that close? Is that just something people have said to not use danas, or am I just missing something?

The way I looked at it was, I'm gonna build a custom width rear end, why not sell my stock A body 8 3/4 to someone who needs it, then spend a little more and build a bullet proof Dana? There is a little extra weight involved with the Dana but it's right over the rear tires where I'm trying to transfer weight anyway? Win/win.

This is what I did. It really buffers the cost of the new one very nicely.
