He guys I'm little confused as to which motor is in my 1972 Plymouth Scamp. I looked at the fender tag and see that it has the E44 code on the bottom line all the way to the left which is for the 318 2bbl 230 hp. It also has the G2R code on the bottom line just before the sequential number which is for the 318 2bbl. 150 or 155 hp. Which one would you say is installed in this car? Thanks in advance!

My understanding, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, is that the way hp was recorded changed sometime in the early 70's which is why there is two different hp ratings for the 318 (there was not a high performance version of the 318 ). Also, I believe pre 1970 318s had slightly higher compression. Other than that there is not a world of difference in them.

I personally believe the "net" numbers were more accurate from a real world standpoint then the "gross" numbers. But regardless, at some point you'll want more.......Eventually, we all do. :D
