Hey all, I'm moving to Iowa at the end of this month for school. I'll be in Council Bluffs. Anything I should know about the midwest before I head out?
Cris

Welcome to Iowa! Where will you be going to school? mike

Iowa is great. The winters can be tough but you get use to it. Usually a nice summer and fall. Fort Dodge here!!!

I just cruised through Iowa last week. Nice clean air, way more humid than it is out in the West. The jeep probably picked up 10-15 hp at the lower altitude. You may have to rejet your carb for the air (much higher density). Fairly hilly country in Council Bluffs. Bring a fishing pole, I must've crossed 10 rivers and seen all kind of ponds and lakes I wouldn't mind checking out.

People from the Midwest like to party. Don't get into any drinking contests with any of them, they'll drink you under the table. :-D

Good luck, have fun and enjoy the change of scenery. Hope this helps.

Council Bluffs is the armpit of Omaha.

It's dirty and there is a lot of crappy houses and casinos.

You would be better off living in Nebraska and driving to Iowa western.

Hate to say it since I grew up in that area.....

I grew up about 60 miles southeast of Council Bluffs. I think the dragstrip in Blair on the Nebraska side is still going, might check out some drags....

There's decent places to live in Glenwood, about 20 miles south of CB.

If you're not from Iowa and you're just passing thru....the four letters in Iowa stand for "I Oughta Went Around".

If you're from Iowa and you're out of the state, those four letters stand for "Idiot Out Wandering Around"

:D

Well coach makes all the players live in the dorms so he can keep an eye out on us, so I'm stuck in Council Bluffs. And as for rejeting my carb... I won't be able to take my barracuda with me. Mostly because its not running. LOL

Would be a little bit of a drive but there is a Mopar car show in Sioux Falls, SD(if you want to look, I know you said you aren't bringing you Baracuda)it's Sunday August 29th. Sioux Falls is about 47 miles noth into South Dakota on I29. As far as weather, be prepared for anything, it may be hot one day and cold the next.

Welcome to Iowa!! Bring warm clothes and be ready to enjoy a full 4 weeks (if we are lucky) of nice weather. Typically Spring lasts 2 weeks and fall lasts about the same....<sigh>. Be sure to get here and register before November so you can help vote Culver out of office. GOOD LUCK AT SCHOOL!!

I transplanted from Michigan a year ago. So far the weather has been nothing like everyone told us it would be. Last winter 91 days straight below zero temp. with high winds, lots of snow and drifting. This summer humid, humid, humid. Oh did I say it's humid alot.
Here, in DesMoines area, there is a big car scene. Though, nobody ever drives their cars, just to shows and back home, or weekly "cruis-ins" and back home. I talked to some people (car clubs and government people) about starting something like the Woodward dream cruise or the 28th Street Metro Cruise, or Back to the Bricks, like Michigan has. All I got was reasons/excuses why it couldn't be done. People, here in Iowa, seem to be more content just to go to some spot, park their car, sit there drinking beer, and then drive home.

Well I moved into the dorms today, and me and some of the guys went out and just had a little kick around and boy.. I was playing for about two hours and it felt like I jumped into the pool with my shirt on!
