I never like the valiant front grills, I put a sharkstooth in mine

I thought about swapping a 70 Duster grill on it some day. How much work did it take to get the shark tooth in there?

Update time! Got a new brake master cylinder put on today.

I was feeling productive and decided to pull the heads off so I could put the new head gaskets on. Found one of the valves was a bit weird looking

Short block looking all dirty

So now I'm not sure what to do. Get a set of heads of for the mean time just put it back on there and hope it holds for the summer. Was planning on putting a 360 in it next spring. So progress made and lost today. Found some inspiration in the form of some old pictures of when my dad had the car. Can't wait for it to be runnin again. Enjoy!

Nice car. Maybe you could just buy one replacement valve and see what happens until you decide on heads.

No, the car is at a buddies house and I don't have any pics handy. ill take some soon and post em.

No progress as of right now. Trying to source a 360/727 combo and so far haven't been able to find anything. Picked up a flip top gas cap the other day and I bought a adaptor from 4umlaSvaliant so that will be going on the car after I get back from vacation. If anybody know of someone with a 360/727 if the NW let me know;)

Beautiful car. I have a 68 valiant came green too now its silver i have both 67 and 68 grilles and havnt decided which i like more.

That's a sharp lookin' Valiant-have you decided for sure your plans for the engine? 318 or 360?

Thanks!:) I'm planning on going with a 360/727 but haven't been able to get either motor or trans yet. The 318/904 I have sitting is pretty much garbage at this point. So as soon as I can get a motor and trans I can get it on the road.

What all does the engine need to run?

It has a bad valve, sorta gnarly looking cam bearing, broken dipstick tube. That's just the top end. I'm assuming the bottom end doesn't look too great either. And it has a 904 out back so I would have to get a longer drive shaft.

Hmm...not enough money right now to throw at either recon'ing those heads or possibly upgrade to EQ Magnums? I think the gnarly type cam bearing is what's wrong with the engine I pulled out of mine...had a intermittent clunk/knock and crap for oil pressure, and I couldn't isolate the noise by pulling plug wires. I guess I missed the part about needing a driveshaft in the thread-I bet there's someone on here willing to part with a 904 driveshaft for a little bit of ching though...you post anything in the wanted section or look for one in the classifieds, yet?

Good idea about the drive shaft. I might throw a set of 360 heads on it and replace the cam bearings real quick. Time is my only real hurdle right now. I'm trying to get the car running so I can drive it by my birthday on July 1st.

I know these are 69's but here's the look to shoot for! The deadly sleeper effect.

The movie you've been waiting to see...

IT CAME FROM THE RETIREMENT HOME!! iN GLORIOUS TECHNICOLOR!!!

Is the engine out already? Replacing cam bearings can be a little tricky if it's still between the shock towers...or so I'm told.

360 heads would work just fine, but you trade off compression for better breathing...just a heads up. Depending on how big the chambers are (because they do vary) and how far in the hole the pistons are, you might wind up as low as 7.5:1.

I know I saw a 904 driveshaft in the classifieds last night though...it was a couple pages in, but I think it was only like $50-whitepunkonnitro was the seller if I recall correctly.

Lol!!!! Love the sleeper look on these cars! I'm looking to ditch the Craigers and get some steel wheels and poverty caps some day. Give it the "grandma car" look.

The motor is out of the car at the moment, so that should make it easier to do the cam bearings. Maybe I'll have a shop do it if I can get the time to do haul it out.

Thinking about the driveshaft now. I have the driveshaft from when the 360/727 was in the car. So seeing that a 904 is 4 inches shorter could I just measure the one I have center to center and add 4 inches to my measurement to get the correct length for when I find a new shaft?

You probably could do that, but I'd recommend not actually settling on a length until you're able to actually measure flange to flange in the car at nominal ride height. It would really suck to just arbitrarily have a shaft made only to find out it's just an inch too long or too short.
