I was leaking large puddles of oil out the back of the motor. My first thought it was the rear main seal but the leak seemed too big for that. Well I pulled the pan to have a look and found this.

clean it up good.checking to make sure gasket area is flat, hammer out if not,new seal and your good to go

Too much rtv if you ask me. Whatever the previous owner/mechanic did, did not last. I drove this truck home from Seattle to Delaware, glad it did not fail on the way. Happy I dont have to do the rear main too.

That usually happens when a foreign fluid finds its way into the pan. The oil seal absorbs it and expands and sometimes gets gummy or just plain feels wrong.Soft I guess youd say.Is the front one like that too?

RTV is not for use on a rubber gasket. The reasons are obvious. lol

The front looked normal. Had blue rtv the length of the pan rail gaskets as well as the rubber seals. It will be fine when I am done.

This is my truck with the soon to be not leaky 318
