My 67 Dart, Where to begin...

-
Picked up some steel, 3" X 1.5 X 0.125", 120" piece. (overkill, should've bought like 108"). Followed the inst on BBD, except I added tabs for the bottom of the front frame rail. Here are a few pics of const, I am gonna get 'em welded in MON with a bit of luck. They should overlap the rear rail by 7". I debated drilling some holes in the side of the rear and front tabs for extra welding to the frame. What do you think?

I got the subframe connectors welded in. The drivers took some work, I was in the breeze, and at first it kept popping like the argon wasn't turned on, took me a bit to figure it out and use my body as a shield from the wind. Gonna prime and paint the frame rails later this week.

The last pic I took just cause the car was out, and I couldn't resist... It is nice to see the paint in the sun, not just in the garage. Someday, maybe on the road...

Finally...

I ordered these from coy's about mid june. I finally got them on the car tuesday. It was worth the weight. The tires are just some free/used ones for now to get me rolling.. Fronts are 17X7 Rears are 18X8. It will eventually be 205/50/17's and 245/45/18's.

More pics coming soon... Should have the motor by Mid NOV!

Thanks,

I have owned it for 15 yrs... it's just finally starting to look how I wanted it to when I was 17... At that rate, another 5-7 yrs, and I will be driving it.
(hopefully not like a 17 year old)

I have decided to change plans, the 273 is gone away... but I think I will be real happy with the results. I picked up a 2005 5.7 hemi (car). Here are a few pics of it coming home yesterday. More to come, as the "swap" parts trickle in... It feels good to have a engine in the garage again.

Hey Joe, very nice build, that is the same engine I bought for my build. Keep up the nice work.

Awesome work. Looks great save for the new tires/wheels. Not a huge fan of 16 - 18 inchers but hey, it's your car.

The problem with a project that gets dragged out as long as mine has, is that I have too much time to "think" about things. It has gotten worse since I found this forum and got a chance to see what others are up to. I have been thinking (LOL) about a late model hemi swap. I'll be following this in earnest now. Dammit! Jim,

In my opinion, you can get one of these motors going for about the same price as nice LA motor (I was gonna fuel inject it) and you cant beat the performance in such a driveable package.

However, I think it will be not as big of deal for me, cause I am starting from scratch on so much of the car. Also, I am not going to do it the most budget friendly way, but several guys on FABO are, so Enjoy!

Projects always take longer and cost more...

JOE

Gonna have the first all wheel drive Dart? That would be cool!:toothy10:

That would be sweet.. I have thought about using a newer subaru drivetrain (My daily is WRX) in a project in the future sometime.

But not in a dodge, maybe a little BMW or porsche...

Here are a few pics of my recent work. I already had the column in once, but yanked it back out to cut back the sleeve, and move back the bearing and collar to give some extra clearance on the 5.7 valve cover. I think it turned out pretty good. I cut 5" off...

The last pic is my birthday present from my wife. I think it will look pretty good.

My wife got me a few parts for X-mas, and decided to give them to me early. (I guess she knows how excited I get when parts come) TTI mounts, and oil filter block plate. I have had a filter relocation kit sitting in a "someday" pile for a while... looks like that day may be coming.

Seems like all my energy is just "saving money" these days to get the parts I want, the FAST system, and the motor in...

I started the CAM swap today, switched the 5.7 valve springs for 6.1 springs, new pushrod as well... I am waiting for my crank/cam bolts from the dealer before I go farther, hopefully I can get them monday, and get the cam in tues or wed.

The tool I found on a LX forum, bought it for $75. It worked great and saved me the $ of the nice Billet one that mancini sells.

I recieved a EGR block off kit I ordered a while ago finally, it is billet and looks real nice. I also put on some composite valve covers just to see, as I plan to switch to the 06/up coils packs as well. The coil packs are in the mail. I just got my TTI headers, and I ordered a Milodon oil pan today as well.

A few more weeks and I can order my Torque Converter and Flex Plate. THEN ITS GOIN IN!!!

Pic #3, what is that weld, on the subframe?

From which post... Top of the page 3rd pic is the TTI Motor mount adapter that has some nice welds, 3rd pic in the next one is a home-made Valve spring tool I picked up, not so nice welds...

JOE

I did the cam swap this weekend, comp cams 268. I am totally excited. I also got my 07 valve covers/coils all bolted up. It looks sweet. I have almost everything I need to put the motor/trans in. I am going to order my torque converter tomorrow, then, as soon as my oil pan (backordered) shows up, its going in!!

Edd,
Thanks for the kind words, I love the 67's too, so CLEAN... We are all in the same boat, it may not always be as pretty or as nice as you hope, but doing the work yourself and seeing progress is a AWESOME feeling. Some days I dont care how it utrns out... I JUST WANNA DRIVE IT!

JOE

Made some progress with the 5.7 today, got the mancini flex plate bolted up, and finally got the bushing out of the crank so I could mate up my torque converter. Still have some work to do here and there before it goes in, but I'm getting close.
