My Dart Swinger Project!

I have a beand new power steering gearbox. Lol kinda wish I would have went manual know lol
I always try to go manual on the A body. So much cleaner without the power steering hoses, belt, pump and brackets, much more room around the header/manifold, and 40 lbs lighter right off the front :)

Yea I didn't think of that when I bought the gearbox I just wanted to put it back orginal. Now I'm second guessing that because of the header situation and the steering pump itself. I may run into troubles there because I have the slant 6 steering pump I bet the brackets are all different.
What do you have to do the knuckle to convert it to manual? I'm pretty sure power vs manual have a different spline on the column where it connects to the gearbox

Get a '73 or newer manual steering box, a lot of times the pitman arm is included. then you have 3 choices.
  1. buy the adapter and use the steering column you have
  2. lock a grip on your steering column and pound the shaft down to length
  3. change the column shaft to manual.
I've done 1 and 2. I've never changed my column to do this swap.

Where can I find the adapter? This may be an option. I'm not sure I understand #2?

Got a little more work on the heads done I am done with the exhaust ports I'm still working in the bowl area on this head and then I'm gonna go back touch up the other one some. This is about as close to the seat as I'm comfortable with @318willrun Haha! I'm gonna try and get the rest of them like this one and call it quits. I still have alot more work on the intake side I'm gonna open them just a little more to the seat.

I can honestly say that I underestimated the amount of work and time that this would take! But I'm truly enjoying the experience I really hope I have the opportunity to do it again it's been kinda fun!

I got the valve cover lump grinded down a little better. And I'm almost finished with the porting process. Hopefully my socket to remove the oil plugs will get here soon and I can get this thing to the machinist.

Here is an adapter listed as for B Body, but believe they fit A Body too.
One guy has them listed as A, B, & E bodies. This will get you started, do your research. They work Great. Looks like not many left from this supplier . . better check quick.

If you are going to get into your steering coupler to relube it, hear is a handy clip for easily getting the top back on and holding it in place. They make kits of this with the new rubber seal too, or you can buy the seal seperate.

Used this adapter and stainless clip on a B Body, super happy, works great.

Thank you for that info I appreciate it!
Looks Good
Thank you I got some more work done on them today. I am just about done with the bowls I'm happy with the size of them and they all seem to match. Know I just gotta get some more of the 240 sanding drums to polish them up. I also got the 2nd head valve guides cut. And got the valve cover bolt lump ground down on the 2nd one. You can really see a difference in the before and after pics that's alot of material removed! I believe I'm gonna go ahead and order my valves and bearings and freeze plugs today.
Here I am with all my porting ppe! Lol

That's what I'm doing. Sick of them leaking oil spewers. I might hate it, but I'm gonna try it.

I may try it later I have a brand new power gearbox so I can't really justify buying another one right now. I may regret that decision when install my headers lol

I've long said that the Chrysler power steering system gave way too much assist. Especially in an A body, I prefer manual steering.

It's been let's say more than a year or two since I drove an A body with manual steering. But I don't remember it being a problem.

Well I mean if you just got one laying around. Might as well run it, LOL
