My Dart Swinger Project!

Got some work done today I got all the old fuel lines out. Managed to get them out without breaking any of the mounting hardware so I can reuse all that that's a plus. Got the rust in the trunk cut out. Got the sending unit took apart and cleaned it up. I tested it and it's working properly so that's another plus. I gotta buy a new float mine has a small crack in it, I'm sure I could solder it but I'm not gonna fool with it I will just replace it. I got my axle bearings and seals installed and got another thermoquad to rebuild thanks to @early A Bob for that I appreciate it buddy.

Today is an exciting day. I got my pistons in the mail today. I got everything loaded up and ready to go to the machinist tomorrow. I'm pumped. This is my first time having machine work done on an engine not quite sure what to expect but I'm excited about it. Cant wait to get it back and start putting it back together

Sending unit and the gas tank straps are "restored" I'm glad I didnt have to replace them and could shine them up a little. Gotta clean out the gas tank. Gonna try to work on that tomorrow. Any suggestions on what to use to clean it? I'm thinking some diesel and some bbs and sloshing it around really good I'd like to get some clr or something like that but that would be extremely expensive. I may try vinegar but iv seen mixed results with that.

Marbles, nuts and bolts etc. and your choice of liquid. Cheap? Yeah, diesel might work. Put your tailgate down strap the tank to it and find your bumpiest dirt road. That'll slosh it, lol. Easier too.

You know what would be awesome and I may just have the thing to rig it up. Make vibrating platform and strap it to the platform and turn it on. Leave it for about 24 rinse and repeat.
My idea take a fan motor or a grinder motor weld a counter weight to the shaft mount it on a piece of wood attached to a sheet of plywood with some old valve springs or something that will let it vibrate and move. Might work? I think in missed my calling as an engineer! Haha

Got some work done today I finally got some welding wire and finished up my floor pans. Got the seat belt hole drilled. I just gotta clean it out really well and primer and paint it. I'm gonna go underneath and seal it with some silicone and primer and paint down there too. Hopefully tomorrow I can get that done and get my fuel lines ran.

Fuel lines... I need to get under mine and do the same! I bought a sending unit with a return line. Was planning on using my stock 5/16 as the return and run a -6 for me feed.

I went thru alot debate deciding on what to do with mine i decided since im not really making a ton of hp I would just go with the stock size and use the canister line for my return line. I am gonna play it by ear with the venting im gonna start with venting the cap if i have issue i will do something else.

That was part of my decision too... the other was to have enough capacity to support a mild hp number.

Little more that you and I’m going to hit it with a mild shot. I could mess this build up
And still make 400hp. So looking at 550-600 on the spray.

Getting some work done today its cloudy and windy and spitting rain but that ain't gonna slow me down. Lol I got my trunk welded and cleaned up I gotta get my gas tank strap welded in paint and primer and it's done. Moving along
After all the rigging and fabing iv done with scrap metal it's nice to see a part with a mopar stamp on it!
For some reason it wont let me upload any photos it says there to large I took them with my phone like I always do. I will try to edit and upload them later

I got everything siliconed and sealed up did my best to clean out the cowl and vents It looks alot better but still could use some more work. It started pouring rain so I had to pack it up and call it a day.

Let's try these pics again
Ok pictures finally worked here is the trunk pan I replaced and the gas tank anchor

Dartfreak my man you are doing great, not to often I see seat of the pants engineering move so quickly. The piece sign in the tire well a nice touch! Your welds are getting better every time you pick up the mig torch.

I have a friend that used a wiper motor and arm assembly to move his motorcycle gas tank back and forth on drawer slides to clean his tank, maybe this could work for you?

Peace out Man…..

Are you putting some seam sealer on the seam underneath? If not, it'd be a good idea.

Great progress btw! Keep it up!
Good point ! Yes I did i just havent taken any photos of it yet but I will! I had trouble loading pictures the other day so I'm 2 or 3 days behind in uploading pictures.

Thank you my friend! I appreciate it. The process really feels great. I'm at that stage where I'm getting really excited and overwhelmed at the same time I know I'm this close but there is still so much work to be done. The work dont bother me tho I enjoy it I'm having a blast with it!

I'm going to have to catch up on your videos. I subed to your channel so should get the alerts. Glad to see you at it.

I got the paint on the ring and turned it. It kinda smeared it around alot I don't think I let it dry long enough. But you can see the contact point on the rest of the teeth that I didnt paint. The teeth with no paint on the ends are the ones I didnt paint the ones with paint all the way around even on the sides are the ones I painted I put a little gear oil in it and then the pattern really showed up good. I think I'm content with it I would like to put the pinion a little closer to the ring but I'm not about to take it back apart and remove the pinion and do all that. If it breaks it breaks I have a spare ring and pinion I will worry about that another day. Lol
I did clean it all off and repaint it to check it again this time I'm leaving it to dry!
Also these are used gears with god know how many miles on them so I'm assuming that has alot to do with the pattern how much wear the set already has.
