my first dodge story

Te transmission is most likely the new process 4 speed overdrive based on the old A833 4 speed. It is essentially a four speed where 4th gear has been made an overdrive instead of 1:1 ratio. If it looks like a typical A833 4 speed, has an aluminum main case and one shift lever points up, the other down, it is an overdrive 4 speed.

Neat old truck, keep up the good work!

From what he described to me the other day, it sounds like he has a top loader

OK I will get a pic of transmission tomorrow when I install my lowering shackles.

Good deal on the truck, You will love it. I have a 72 long bed 1/2 t with a np435, you never know what they might have.

Fourth one fixed it. Kiddo helped. Test drove up to 70 no problems.

madd, when you get your new heater blower motor resistor installed, first be sure all the leaves and crud are cleaned out of the heater box and install a screen over the inlet to the box. Make sure the resistor is standing well proud of the heater box and that there is no crud for it to start on fire. Then run the heater for a good long while in all three switch positions (high, med and low) and feel all the wires going to the blower and resistor. Don't touch the resistor because it may be very hot. (The resistor will get hottest in the "low' position, where it is providing the most voltage drop, while the wiring will get hottest in the "high" position, where the blower is drawing the most current.)

If you feel any part of the wires or connections (except the resistor itself) getting really hot, repair the high-resistance point that is causing it before you button up the dash. Usually the high resistance point is at a connection, such as a spade lug.

Get some high-quality spade lugs and solder them to the wires if you have to replace any. Hot wires like this can lead to an under-dash fire, fanned by the blower, which can easily burn the entire car up unless it is put out immediately. Such fires were fairly common on these cars. This happened on my '78 dually when it had 22K miles, when the P.O. was pulling his fifth-wheel trailer. I replaced all the burned wires with larger gauges, soldered the connections and used high-quality spade lugs and it has been fine ever since. Also, carry a fire extinguisher.

If I have to carry a fire extinguisher I'm in a vehicle I don't need to be driving. Especially daily with kids

Just make sure your heater blower circuit is running nice and cool and you'll be OK. Replace any of the wires and spade connectors that are suspicious, and make sure the switch and its connectors are in good condition. The big thing is keeping leaves out of the box. A simple screen over the inlet does that.

Check and mark. Resistor is good. Wiring good. Got fire extinguisher already mounted in cab. Thank you for the input.

OK so update.
Water pump was leaking really bad. I just finished replacing it. Started at 7pm finished at 9pm, without any light. Rough. Done. Burped and sealed.
Got my new(used) van LCA s. Already did longer shackles so 2" lower in the rear. Got to get new ball joints and bushings. But will be lowering it further very soon.
New tool box is close to me but won't be here until next week? I don't understand shipping companies. Its four hours away but will take a week to get here?
Edit*
New hubcaps are here and first coat is on. Pictures soon

Cool news guys! Paul got the HEI setup installed on the truck tonight and tells me that it idles MUCH better

He's gonna send me photos later to post for him

Here's the pics guys. He says to apologize for fuzzy photos. He ran out of light.

Yes. Those are painted dog dish caps

He got the 2" drop shackles on and his tool box in.

HEI is all mounted and hooked up. Runs great.

And removed the computer box from the air cleaner!

I'm sure more will be posted when he gets the lca's installed!
