My New FABO Reality Show...Rani, I'ma Callin' You Out!!!

-
so glad that you finished it and are satisfied with the results.

I did get my Dart dash functional, however I never finished it to what I would call completely satisfying to me. Being in a car that is a daily driver made it hard to be so complete on a time crunch. I actually still lack the dash pads .....I still need to address reviving 40 some year old pads and I am not happy with the bolt arrangement which is going to entail disassembly and what I call a "bolt audit".

However all is not over and the rally dash fever is not yet cured.

Currently I am up to old habits again in another rally dash swap. This time in a much more expensive and elaborate manner.

I have a 68 Dodge coronet wagon and I am swapping the standard dash over to a rally dash set up from a 68 dodge charger. Only problem is anytime you go to buy a car part, if the words "dodge charger" are attached......it makes the price double. DOH #-o

That's right, a WAGON with a charger interior is in the making and another old boring Brady bunch wagon shall live on. LOL So stay tuned to this FABOzene and if your finished then start another one. :D

Last two pics have the wrong dates ....that happened last week!!!!

Finally, I finished reading all 13 pages !!! Kudos to all of you for a great read !!!:headbang:

I have had the same idea of making my '69 GTS Dash just like you all have done ! Word has it that I can do it as you have, or do some cutting of my stock dash and fitting the Gauges into it ! Has anyone tried that method ? If it's easier to change out the entire dash, does anyone know where I could find a nice Dash to start with ?

I tried using the original frame and its really different from the rally ....the whole radio plug is not even in the same location and the radio is entirely different between rally and non.....if you want a correct looking dash then you are miles ahead swapping a purpose made rally frame.....especially since 69 barracuda frames are around and can be acquired relatedly easy and it will be a bolt in and use kind of thing.

BTW: I am replying to your PM

Been a while since I've contributed in this thread. Super long weekend with both Friday and Monday off so a little play time. I couldnt remember if I had posted "finished" pics or not.
Bezel has been sitting naked on the shelf for a while so I decided to give it a wipe n dust and put gauges to her. I think Rainy or Cos (both?) snuck up and scoffed my bezel tool or I would have installed switches and bezels.
Lots of labor, mostly taping but really material costs are fairly minimal. If/when the 69 gets done I will run with this. Its presentable and in reality a redone or repop bezel gauges lenses shipping could see it approach the $1000 mark.
I've realized let the wheels rule the road and compromises may have to be made.
Ive included reference pics of the slight differences in metal housings.

Anyone got ideas on how to hang/present this on a wall? I have the dash but I still need to blast and paint it.

Your Charger dash looks awesome Rainy! Love the looks of naked steel!

Anyone else with diy dashes? Post em up....ideas where my bezel removal tool is will be rewarded by the Ether Bunny

Is that bulge in your pocket your tool??? Or are you just glad to see us???😳

Old thread, does this one count? Currently in a box in my loft. I hope the rest of the car ends up as good as the dash.

Wow, I have never ever looked in this thread or knew about it (Or forgot if someone told me) .. I have a bunch of reading to do :(

Did I miss the finale? The way cosgig built it up, I thought it was more than just the completed dash reveal.

I’m sorry to tell you Dion, that the video Nella and I made had a small flaw that made the entire video unable to be published. Long story short, we used a Cake song, “Stickshifts and Safety belts” through the entire video, not realizing that is was copyright protected, and as such made the entire video unable to be published. To fix it would’ve entailed refilming the entire video, which meant that all of the actors would’ve had to be reassembled and all of the shots redone. One more problem we had, it was made on Nellas school computer, which had to be turned in to the school at the end of the school year. The next fall, she was given the same computer back, but it was scrubbed clean, and we lost everything. She was pretty devastated because we put a lot of time into filming, editing, overdubbing all of the music, and she wanted to turn it in to her media class as a video project. We are still pretty bummed about that.

we are also bummed because we had written and illustrated a children’s book for her class, and that was deemed not admissible due to not following the curriculum guidelines, so they threw that away too. We are currently rewriting that, and have been actively looking for a publisher for that.

sorry bud, that was a fun thread, and we really wanted a Big Bang ending, but technology bit us in the behind, and we weren’t able to recover it in time!

Dang ! I hate when that happens !

yea, Nella was pretty crushed, she really worked hard on the project. We’re going to make up for it tho with her book, she’s very excited about getting that published. We got a call from Simon and Schuster today, we shall see what they say!
